The beautiful beach of Puerto Chino, its wildlife, and the viewpoint / Galapagos Islands - The Ecuador diary 🌊 La hermosa playa de Puerto Chino, su fauna y el mirador / Islas Galápagos - El diario de Ecuador
The last place we visited on our tour of San Cristóbal Island was Puerto Chino Beach, with its truly photogenic landscape and, once again, friendly wildlife willing to share some time with us humans.
We had already been to La Lobería at the beginning of the tour, interacting with the sea lions, and here we found them again, but in greater numbers.
To reach Puerto Chino, we took a short hike through a dry forest with native vegetation. Suddenly, this stunning landscape of white sand, turquoise water, and volcanic rock unfolded before us.
We spent a few minutes on the beach with the friendly sea lions, and then we climbed up to the viewpoint. It's a hill nearby, and we were told that's where the name of this place comes from, as its shape resembles a Chinese hat.
For me, a lover of landscape and nature photography, Puerto Chino was a delight. I loved the combination of the sea, the wildlife, and the volcanic rocks.
Many birds live on this rocky hill overlooking the sea: ground and mangrove finches, frigatebirds, pelicans, the famous blue-footed boobies, among others.
Besides observing the incredible scenery and wildlife up close, in Puerto Chino you can also do other activities, such as swimming, snorkeling and surfing, as there are usually waves.
Some people in the group went into the water for a while. Since I had swum at the beginning of the tour, this time I preferred to sit next to the sea lions, continue taking pictures of them, observe the beauty of the surroundings, and eat my small snack 😊.
As I mentioned, you can also see several endemic plants here. I don't remember the names of the ones I'm showing below, but they were the ones that caught my eye.
It was already past five in the afternoon and it was time to return to the starting point of this tour, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.
We arrived around 6:00 pm, and our boat was waiting there to take us back to Santa Cruz Island.
The light of the sunset was wonderful, making the seascapes of the Galapagos Islands look even more impressive.
This concludes my adventure on San Cristóbal Island. I hope you found it interesting, and if you want to read the previous chapters of this travel diary, here are the links. Until next time!

You are very welcome @sofathana! it was well deserved. ☀️
We are already looking forward to reading more about your adventures!
Wow! You can get so close to the sea lions, that's so amazing.
Ecuador doesn't feature in our radar much, it's mainly overshadowed by the likes of Peru and Brazil. I think I'd like to do a proper south America trip some time in the future
Yes, these animals are so cute! ❤️ And it's true, Peru is much better known, perhaps they have better marketing; I haven't been there yet. But Ecuador is a very interesting and diverse country, I highly recommend it 😉.
And of course, if you're going to travel to this part of the world, you should also include Venezuela, which isn't as visited as it deserves, but I assure you it will surprise you with its incredible natural beauty and the friendliness of its people 😊.
