A quiet day in the village where I was born.
Hello hivers, an happy Easter Monday to you all!
As I wrote yesterday, today I went to my mom for the lunch because I couldn't go there yesterday (our car has a problem and we are waiting it will be ok, so we went to my mom with the bus). It's a warm sunny day in my area and so, after a very good lunch and before to take the bus to come back at home, we walked along the main street of the village where my mom lives and where I was born, so I could take some pics to share with you. 😁
The name of the village is Piteccio and it's just around 7 km from the city Pistoia (in Tuscany, Italy) where I live now.
It's a small village along the river Ombrone and the first mention of it in some ancient documents dates back to 1086. In the past (centuries ago)
it was a fiefdom of the Vergiolesi family (a very known and rich family in the historical time), which included the beautiful girl Selvaggia dei Vergiolesi who inspired the poet Cino da Pistoia ( friend of the famous poet Dante Alighieri). Between the 100 and the 1300 there wa a castle in Piteccio, but at now there are no ruins of it, just some ancient documents.
When I was a young girl I used to walk around in the forests close to the village with my friends to search some ruins of the castle, but nobody found them since some centuries (even if every child there had fun to search it 😁 ).
In the following pic you can see the building where there was my primary school (many years ago I studied there):
When I was a child there was a nursery school in the village. Now that building is the place where during the holidays people do fairs and charity raffles:
The primary school and the nursery school are close to the church, where there is a large space (in front of the secondary entrance) where, when there was no mass, children used to play:
In front of that area and close to the ex nursery school there was a farm where my mom, when I was a little child, used to buy the fresh milk:
In the main square there is a park with some child wooden toys and a memorial monument to remember people died during the Second World war.
As you can see, there was a tall bridge over the village. Before the 1945 there was an important bridge for the train that connected the cities around, but it was destroyed by the bombs in the 1945 and the one you can see in the pics was built again some years later.
Well, I hope you liked this "virtual tour" in the village where I was born. ❤️
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia
