A beautiful small village: Spedaletto.
Hello hivers, an happy Sunday to you all!
This is a very hot weekend here in the city where I live, but yesterday me and my hubby @paolobeneforti went to a beautiful small village on a hill not so far from us (just around 20 minutes by car) where the air was cool enough to come back to breath. 😁
We went there with some students of the art class of my hubby and before to start to draw I took some pics around to share with you.
The name of this village is Spedaletto (an italian word that means "little hospice) and it came from the ancient tradition (started in the middle ages) to offer hospitality to travellers.
In the ancient time there was an hospice where now there is the village, It helped the pilgrims who were traveling along the ancient road called Via Francesca della Sambuca. It seems that each evening at the sunset, a bell rang to signal the place where shelter, food, and rest were provided. ❤️
We arrived there in the afternoon and even if at the start of the village there is a small lake where people use to fish and to eat in the restaurant there:
Just after few meters there is the village with the ancient church called Saint Bartholomew with a bell tower. The church and the tower were part of the first settlement in themiddle agee, while the fountain in the small square is much more recent (around 1778):
During this weekend there is a small festival (a very small one) in the village and yesterday there was a (small) plants show with a talk about the theme.
I think it's difficult to understand how small is this village just watching this pic, but just to know during the winter just around 10/15 families live there, while in the Summer there are also the people who have a holiday home (often the house of their ancestors).
I like the houses there, it seems to be in a sort of fairy tale between trees and a small river:
Along the wall there was a photo exhibition by different photographer. All the pics are about the life in the village, from the winter to the summer.
Well, now I have to go, but maybe later we will come back there to breath the fresh air.
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia
