Jaflong | Sylhet
AND WE ARE BACK!
Better late than never, eh?
Yes, we are still not done with our Sylhet exploration posts. It's just the third part of the third day, and we still have the fourth day left. This is right here, is going be a big one.
So, you better buckle up!
The whole ride towards Jaflong surely was lengthy. It was taking forever, even though the distance wasn't that much. Yes, along the way we did take quite a few breaks for some sightseeing, but it still felt quite long and tiring.
Yet, we did reach our destination before noon. So, we had ample time to explore, haggle, and experience this big ole natural playground. From little streams to the tall hills and fountains, there was a lot to see here. Many people consider this the best tourist spot in Sylhet, and I understand why. This place is like a whole package, you get it all in one place.
I have been here before though, this is not my first time. Yet, that was a long time ago, probably in 2010. Things have changed, we have gained some extra ground from our neighboring country, India. And the water is a lot more "murky" for some reason. From what I can remember, it was a lot clearer and bluer back then.
The big rocky fountain is a new one. I don't think we had access to this part a decade ago; it's hugging India's borers tightly. Before it was probably out of bounds for us Bangladeshis.
But, for now, this is a great addition.
One thing I don't understand is how people managed to climb that high, the highest point is about as tall as a 6-storey building. So, to climb such slippery rocks and heights without any equipment, it's a risky business. I wonder how many people have slipped in all these years of access, it's not a pleasant fall, the landing would be way too hard. Yet, we are emotional beings, we chase thrills, and some of us love taking risks. However, we barely spend any time in due diligence or risk management; we are an impulsive bunch.
After a bit of mountaineering, we headed back down into the lower parts. It was time to fight a strong current and get wet; while scratching the borders and hills of India. The view was one of a kind, especially the bridge at a distance, from one hill to another, it was an unforgettable view. I still remember this view from 2010 but from a much farther distance.
Beyond the borders and hills was Meghalaya, which from what I've heard and seen, is close to paradise. It's funny, even though it was so close here, just a little swim away; to make the actual journey we would require a lot of paperwork and detours. We'd have to first fly or drive in and then round in closer toward our borders to experience Meghalaya.
As the clock started ticking towards the 5 PM mark, we started our walk uphill towards Zero Point. It was time to grab some lunch and then head back home.
However, all that would have to wait, because one of our rented vehicles was acting up. Long story short, we ended up having lunch and dinner together. But, the dinner was great, we had a popular duck curry of some sort, which could only be found in Sylhet they say.
All in all, it was a good day, 80% of it at least. So, I'm not complaining.
Well, that's about it for our Third day in Sylhet. I'll be seeing you all on the next one, which is our fourth and last day in Sylhet.

What an extraordinary trip, the mountains have always been a paradise for those of us who have a hobby of travel
What makes it even better? Mountains with fountains haha.
So were you able to spot any difference between when you visited there in 2010 and now that you visited there?
More lively?
More areas to explore, more people, fewer trees, and the water isn't as clear. That's about it. Definitely more tiring too, this time.
Okay! 🙂👍
