Angeiras - Lavra - Foz do Rio Onda / Riding Portugal

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)
There are days when the weather plays tricks on us, and Northern Portugal is a master at this. We left home one October day with a light coat and a heavy sense of distrust. The plan was simple: walk the boardwalk between Angeiras and Labruge, breathe in the sea air, and perhaps find that kind of silence that only exists when the wind blows just right. Spoiler alert: I ended up without slippers or socks on the sand, eating ice cream, and wondering if the calendar had gone crazy.

The first thing that surprised me was the heat. October? What October? The sun was there, shining with an enthusiasm like in August. The boardwalk was packed with people along the coast, its light, worn wood smelling of salt and sea. The sound of the waves mingled with the laughter of people, families, cyclists, and even a man walking his dog in a beach trailer. Yes, you read that right. A trailer. I even considered asking him why, but then I remembered that we all have our strange days, and maybe the dog deserved a little luxury, or rest, too. Who am I to judge?

As we walked, I noticed how hypnotic that stretch of coastline was. To the right, the sea crashing hard against the rocks, reminding us that it's in charge. To the left, golden dunes and low vegetation, clinging to the sand. And there I was, in the middle, trying to decide if the sound of the seagulls was relaxing or irritating.

It was then that the most amusing moment of the walk happened: a seagull decided that a lady's hat was apparently a military target. I saw it almost in slow motion, wings spread, a determined look in its eyes. And before anyone could warn me, poof, there it came, swooping down. The hat flew off, the lady tripped on a step on the walkway, and almost involuntarily took a dip in the sand. Result? The people behind laughed so hard that one had to sit down. I laughed too, because when a seagull steals your hat, all you can do is accept the humiliation and move on with dignity, or what's left of it.

Later, I sat on a wooden bench watching the sunset. The golden light reflected on the water, and everything seemed in slow motion. There were surfers enjoying the last waves of the day, couples strolling hand in hand, and that smell of grilled sardines wafting from Angeiras, a temptation hard to ignore. I sat there thinking that life can be simple. A boardwalk, the sound of the sea, and an October that decided to play vacation.

There's something meditative about walking by the sea. It makes us think about the things that truly matter, or perhaps it just makes us think about how wonderful it would be to live in a place like this, with the sound of the sea serving as our alarm clock. And yes, it might be a cliché, but there are clichés worth living.
When the sun finally set, the wind began to change, bringing with it that cool breeze typical of the end of the day. I put on my coat, which was useful after all, and enjoyed it until I could no longer see it.

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health

This place reminds me a lot of Margarita Island in Venezuela, which shares almost the same characteristics of landscapes and vegetation.
that seagull ambush on the ladys hat cracked me up :) You captured the slow motion panic and the dignity recovery afterward so well and it definitly felt like a tiny movie. Loved how you let the laugh breathe then eased back into that quiet walk vibe.
