The Sanctuary of Las Lajas - Santuario de las lajas

Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well. A few days ago, I had the opportunity to visit one of the most emblematic places in Colombia, the Sanctuary of Las Lajas in the city of Ipiales, located in the department of Nariño. It is considered one of the most beautiful and unique churches in Latin America due to its location and architecture.

Hola a todos y todas espero se encuentren muy bien, hace unos días tuve la fortuna de visitar uno de los lugares más emblemáticos en Colombia y es la catedral de Lajas en la ciudad de Ipiales en el departamento de Nariño, es considerada una de las iglesias más hermosas y singulares de América Latina debido a su ubicación y arquitectura.

The church is built on a natural bridge that crosses the canyon of the Guáitara River, creating a spectacular sight. Its construction began in 1916 and was completed in 1949, combining Gothic and Neo-Gothic elements in its design. The church is made of stone and stands out for its impressive white facade with ornamental details.

La iglesia está construida sobre un puente natural que cruza el cañón del río Guáitara, creando una imagen espectacular. Su construcción comenzó en 1916 y fue finalizada en 1949, combinando elementos góticos y neogóticos en su diseño. La iglesia está hecha de piedra y se destaca por su impresionante fachada blanca con detalles ornamentales.

The history and legends surrounding the Las Lajas Church also add to its special charm. According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared on a rock at this site, which led to the construction of the church. The devotion to the Virgin of Las Lajas has attracted thousands of pilgrims and visitors from around the world.

La historia y las leyendas que rodean a la Iglesia de Las Lajas también la hacen especial. Según cuenta la tradición, en este lugar se apareció la Virgen María en una roca, lo que llevó a la construcción de la iglesia. La devoción a la Virgen de Las Lajas ha atraído a miles de peregrinos y visitantes de todo el mundo.

It is truly a beautiful place. Personally, I'm not Catholic, but the architecture of the church and its location in the middle of a canyon is something unique and definitely worth experiencing.

La verdad es un lugar hermoso, yo en lo personal no soy católico pero la arquitectura del lugar estar en medio de un cañón es algo único y que vale totalmente la pena conocer.
