Postcards from my city, Maracay (Part 3)

This is my third post in a series I’m calling “Postcard from My City.” In this installment, I’d like to show you photos of iconic landmarks in my city, Maracay. As I mentioned earlier, this is the third installment, and I should point out that everything I’ve shown you so far is located within an area no larger than two kilometers. This is because this area is part of a key historic district, where the vast majority of the city’s significant architectural landmarks are concentrated. However, there are many more that I will, of course, share in the future.

Today I’m sharing with you some photos of the “Maestranza César Girón Bullring,” a place that is undoubtedly a hallmark and icon of the city. In fact, I remember that back in the day there were postcards and stamps featuring this bullring as a local symbol. This venue has undergone various renovations and repairs throughout its history. It has been inactive for long periods, since—as a curious fact—the repairs tend to be quite time-consuming. On this occasion, even though it looks quite colorful on the outside, repairs are still being carried out inside; it is a rather complex structure, both in shape and size.

I’m not going to get into a debate about the activities that have taken place here in the past. It’s true—and perhaps I include myself here—that I don’t agree with bullfighting, given that animals suffer as a result of this spectacle. But my intention today isn’t to talk about that; I simply want to show you the architectural merits of this place, which, regardless of personal preferences, is a structure of great significance. In addition to bullfighting events, this venue also serves as a venue for concerts and various types of significant artistic events.

On a personal note, I had the chance to play there with a heavy metal band I was part of during a festival where people voted to decide which local band would perform at a major concert. I also had the chance to see the American extreme metal band Cannibal Corpse live many years ago. That is, without a doubt, one of the greatest memories I have of this place. I’ll leave you with these beautiful images, hoping you enjoyed them. I’ll be back soon with more iconic views of my city.

Greetings, friend! It's great that you're making these kinds of posts and showcasing the unique tourist attractions of that place, which are so beautiful, especially that bull statue that adds such a special touch. I haven't been there yet, and I hope to visit it someday.
