All's House

With the third publication of the series "Wonders of the Hicacos Peninsula" we continue our journey of discovery. This time I will take you to a property surrounded by legend "La casa de All" (All's house).

The name, as you can read on its entrance sign, is intended to refer to the American gangster Alphonse Gabriel "Al" Capone (Scarface). The legend surrounding this property attributes its ownership to him. Great stories of sumptuous parties and alcoholic beverage trafficking during Prohibition in the United States can be heard from some of the inhabitants of this region.

Tourists come here with the intention of discovering the truth behind the legend, but...is a marketing strategy that undoubtedly has had a great effect. The famous character visited our country in 1928 and even at that time this building had not even been built. Perhaps for this reason "All" and not "Al" was used when naming this restaurant, to mask and hook with the false history 😉.

It was in the 1930's when this house of canto (natural stone blocks) and wood, owned by Colonel Eugenio Silva Giquel, was finished. The stories of luxurious parties that must have been held here transcended time, and with a clear purpose and some imagination, were transformed into the marketing campaign that to this day positions the restaurant that once housed this house.

Despite the falseness of the story, the truth is that the visitor finds here an excellent quality food while enjoying the cozy atmosphere offered by this beautiful house. Built in the typical manner of its time, with balconies and tile roofs, being here is very pleasant. The temperature is perfect to defy the heat of the island and above all, the view of the incomparable Varadero beach.

Something else distinguishes this place and is that it has the terrace built and still in operation closest to the shore of the beach. Definitely a luxury worth enjoying.

Con la tercera publicación de la serie "Maravillas de la Península de Hicacos" seguimos nuestro viaje de descubrimiento. Esta vez los llevaré a un inmueble rodeado de leyenda "La casa de All".

El nombre, como puede leerse en su cartel de la entrada, pretende hacer referencia al gánster estadounidense Alphonse Gabriel «Al» Capone (Scarface). La leyenda que rodea a este inmueble le atribuye a él, su propiedad. Grandes historias de fiestas suntuosas y tráfico de bebidas alcohólicas, durante la Ley Seca en Estados Unidos, se pueden escuchar de algunos habitantes de esta región.

Los turistas llegan hasta aquí con el ánimo de descubrir la verdad detrás de la leyenda, pero...todo es una estrategia de marketing que sin duda alguna ha surtido mucho efecto. El famoso personaje visitó nuestro país en 1928 y aún en esa época este inmueble ni se había construido. Quizá por esta causa se utilizó "All" y no "Al", al nombrar este restaurante, para enmascarar y enganchar con la falsa historia 😉.

Fue en la década del 30 cuando está casa de canto (bloques de piedra natural) y madera, propiedad del Coronel Eugenio Silva Giquel, fue terminada. Las historias de fiestas lujosas que debieron celebrase aquí trascendieron el tiempo, y con un propósito claro y algo de imaginación, se transformaron en la campaña de marketing que hasta hoy posiciona al restaurante que alberga esta otrora vivienda.

A pesar de lo falso de la historia, lo cierto es que el visitante encuentra aquí un comida de excelente calidad mientras disfruta del acogedor ambiente que ofrece esta bella casa. Construida a la manera típica de su época, con balcones y techos de tejas, estar aquí se hace muy agradable. La temperatura es perfecta para desafiar el calor de la isla y sobre todo, la vista de la inigualable playa de Varadero. Algo más distingue a este lugar y es que posee la terraza construida y aún en funcionamiento más cercana a la orilla de la playa. Definitivamente un lujo digno de disfrute.
