Port Avenue: a place to relax and refresh [ENG/ESP]
Hello my fellow travelers! Today I want to share with you a fantastic experience I had during a recent stroll along Avenida del Puerto in Old Havana. The Cuban summer heat is intense, but every step was worth it to discover a place full of history and flavor. Will you join me to relive this journey?
We started the day walking along the seawall, the sea breeze providing some relief from the stifling heat. Avenida del Puerto offers beautiful views of the bay and a lively atmosphere. We passed iconic landmarks like Alameda de Paula and The warehouse San José, which sell local handicrafts, until we reached the destination: the Old Timber and Tobacco Warehouse, now converted into a craft brewery.
This place isn't just a brewery; it's a piece of Cuba's industrial history. Built in 1906, it was initially used as a steel, lumber, and tobacco warehouse, with railway lines connecting it to other docks and electric cranes, a true innovation for its time. It was later used as part of the port terminal until, in 2014, the Havana Historian's Office transformed it into a brewery and restaurant.
Upon entering, I was surprised by the breadth of the place and how the original industrial structure has been respected, with its high roofs and metal beams. In view of all are the beer production tanks, I already had references that a very tasty beer is made here, so this is the best opportunity to check it.
We preferred to sit on the outdoor terrace, which offers a spectacular panoramic view of the bay. To beat the heat, we ordered a pitcher of their craft beer, brewed on-site. I swear, that cold, fresh beer was heaven in the heat!
It's a unique environment because it combines the ocean view, the sea breeze, and the industrial architecture to create an incredible sensory experience.
Sitting there, enjoying the beer, I couldn't help but feel part of this place's history. From its time as a warehouse to today, as a lively meeting place, the Old Lumber and Tobacco Warehouse is an example of how Havana remembers its past while building its future. It's important to respect and preserve the legacy of our ancestors.
While enjoying the beautiful sea view, we have the opportunity to observe a work located nearby that draws a lot of attention. It's a huge bicycle, more than 7 meters tall. This iron sculpture titled "Against Wind and Tide" depicts a female figure carrying household items; it's like carrying the house on your back. It invites us to reflect on the fact that we must always fight against difficulties, always moving forward with everything in our hands, even if it's difficult.
If you ever visit Havana, be sure to stop by. It's an experience that perfectly combines history, culture, and the Caribbean breeze!
I hope you enjoyed this tour as much as I did.
See you next time!

Yes, the port avenue and its seawall are beautiful. Thanks for your comment🤗
