100 Lyra coffee and rooftop-views of Istanbul.
Overpriced coffee, spectacular views and traveling inspiration.
Istanbul: Europe’s largest City, one of the oldest as well. So much has happened here, so much history all around. The past and the present share each street. The silk road has passed through this Town on the edge between Asia and Europe. How many donkeys, horses, cars, boats passed through this place?
Very inspired by the little knowledge I have of Istanbul’s story, I feel like I must make the most of my time and soak up all the inspiration I can possibly find in those streets.
But my legs are still tired form the 4’500kilometres I cycled until I reached this town. And my feet don’t want to walk me around these streets longer than an hour or so.
Strolling through narrow streets, steep hills, I look up and seem to have discovered a rooftop-cafe on top of one of those millions of old houses.
We decide to go up. Have a rest, and enjoy a bit of the city, overlooking it from far above. Leaving all the buzzing and the noises downstairs.
The prices are almost as overwhelming as the view, but that was to be expected.
100 Lyra, for one espresso. But the cup is cute, the coffee excellent and the view astonishing, I am willing to forgive the price.
And here she lays, this ancient town, buzzing like a beehive.
Mosques reaching high up in the skies with their minarets. Skyscrapers shooting up like sprouts.
Bridges filled with little dots, humans and cars moving along slowly.
Even the water is crowded, big container ships crossing the Bosporus into the black sea and back, ferries and fisher boats.
It feels good to step back for a little moment and observe from far.
Imagining all the different lives, that come together in such a human centred place. People living here and, apparently, around 10million tourists passing by each year.
I can’t help but wonder, how many more people must have passed this place throughout the whole of its history.
Overwhelming but also inspiring. Change, movement, travel and all those different cultures meeting in one place.
Istanbul.
Thank you all for stopping by, have a wonderful day!

A bit steep indeed, though I always try to reel my thoughts back in when abroad and something is overpriced. Fuck it. It's one coffee. In 10 years time, you won't remember this minor unpleasantry when thinking back on this wonderful journey, cherie <3
Already forgot about it:)
...I just took it as a reminder, that where I come from any coffee has that price at least, like a souvenir but the other way round:D
Such a glorious post, and yes, the layers of memory, footsteps, voices and exchanges... The immensity of it is unfathomable, but we can feel it reverberating and whispering to us, in our sentience, eh?
Thank you for this beautiful sharing yet again, dearest friend @kesityu.fashion - and the overpriced coffee - hehehe - this made me smile how you presented it - and it reminded me of when I went to Rome once, for the first time since I had enough money to actually travel a couple of hours by train (I should've cycled there!): I treated myself to a caffé and cornetto at one of the big fancy bars under some elaborate arches right next to Termini... It was wonderful! Then I went to pay and the woman asked me for more than 6 Euros! I literally took a step back and questioned if she was charging me for the wrong order? I had only had one coffee and a croissant??
She was quite put out. I apologised, but nel mio borgo costa meno di 2 Euro per la stessa cosa - in my village it only costs 2 Euro for the same thing. Aaah, the city!
Worth it for the view and the vibes, eh! xx
Thank you😊
Hahah yes, I made that experience in Florence too ...I was shocked, but the surroundings made it even again:)
...I guess it's those two worlds meeting, all the history and memories together with the businesses built around and within it. Sometimes I find it hard to find a way through, if you don't have any advice from someone from there.
Maybe next time you'll cycle🙃🚲
🧡
This ancient city seems bustling indeed. I did not realise that it would be expensive there. I hope not everything was. I hope the city was not only picturesque but a great experience so that you forgot about the expensive coffee.
I think big cities are always a bit more expensive than in the country side, nevertheless you can always find the affordable or the overpriced corners, just a matter of where you go to, I guess.
A great experience indeed:) Thanks for stopping by!
I live in Turkey. Welcome to Istanbul, life in Istanbul is expensive, but it is a magnificent city where every corner smells of history...
Historical buildings and mosques are as if they were alive and had a soul. It gives people peace. I hope you had a nice time.
Thank you!
I am enjoying very much to explore this beautiful city and the country as well:) Surely any big cities are always more expensive, than the country side, I guess that's what we have to live with...
I hope you have a great time. Yes, unfortunately we have to learn to live with expensiveness. :)
It's so good to see Turkey again, from your point of view... How I miss it... Doesn't matter which season, Istanbul is always beautiful. Enjoy it!🌼
Thank you😊 very nice to hear that form you!!
It is indeed! (...or I imagine, since I only know one of it's seasons, so far😉)

YOU DID IT!!!! Wow.
Istanbul espresso is cheaper than Portland espresso, maybe I should come visit.
Did you meet all the stray cats? They made a movie called Kedi about the lives of the strays in the city. It came out right after one of my cats passed. It's very moving, if you like da kitties.
😊😊yes!!!
It's amazing how an Espresso in one country will buy you a whole breakfast in another one😄 surely it will be worth your visit!
Oh that is interesting! I'll have a look at it! Indeed I noticed all the cats, I was even going to write about them:)
Does anyone not like kittens?
OOOOOOOOOOoooooo if you think to please tag me in your kittycat post so I don't miss it!
I remember when I brought home two abandoned stray kittens, less than a week old, to take care of. My teenage cat was very annoyed. In that moment, he did not like kittens.
I will:)
Ohaa I imagine, don't you dare taking off 100% attention privilege!! :D
I tell you, if I could, I would have already adopted so many around here! Very hard to stay focused, and realistic!
But I also have to say that most cats here in Turkey seem to be having a happy life, very well looked after and feed by every one...
Awww, yay. It seemed like that in the documentary, too. People co-existed with the cats.
