Two Wheel, Threes Of Us: Exploring UNESCO Site-Kelemantia Frontiers Of The Roman Empire And Archaeological Site.
After our adventure in other cities of Slovakia, we continue to explore in one of the Roman military camps in Iža. It was a beautiful sunny day and we set off our bikes going to Iža .
We were living in the village of Patince, which has its own charm. The peaceful atmosphere of our village life, near the calm flow of the Danube River and our simple joys of biking around .
Our trip isn’t about traveling far and it’s about discovering the history near our village. And it was a sunny afternoon and we hopped on my bike. My husband told us that we have a UNESCO site in Iža, a cultural monument.
We headed towards Iža, there is a Roman military camp near the village of Iža and on the banks of Danube River. It's just 6 km from our house to Iža Kelemantia. It's just the 3 of us when we go cycling it takes us 20 to 30 minutes. From Patince village, the ride was refreshing and easy because we can biking lanes. The beautiful landscape opens wide on both sides. The roads are calm, surrounded by fields like corn and patches of trees. Along the way, we enjoy the beautiful of nature's simplicity and we feel the air breeze on our faces
Aya loves downhill biking and it's a thrill for her. I captured a video when she's biking downhill. She's my adventurer, pushing her limits and accept challenges to try new things . She's my adventurous and brave daughter.
As we continue cycling, there are few downhill but longer slopes. But this one I capture and my husband often teases me. "And why do you need tk document, video everything" And my response so my family in the Philippines will saw it 🤣😍
When I arrived at Kelemantia, my daughter's first impression was its scale. "There's nothing in here Tato". My husband explained to us that the only remains of the foundation walls have been preserved.-The Ruins. Kelemantia, the Roman Castellum and a UNESCO archaeological site. Frontiers of the Roman Empire , a military camp in the 2nd century. Protecting the frontiers of the Danube River which serves as natural borders known as Limes Romanus.
As we explored the ancient Roman fort of Kelemantia, Aya and I were walking through the preserved wall foundations. These foundations, which were very impressive built to last, have survived centuries, a marvel of engineering and craftsmanship of the Roman builders.
The military camp in Iža belonged to the extensive border fortification system limes Romanus. It was built by the Romans to protect the provinces against attacks by the Germans from the north. In the 1st – 4th centuries, the Marcomanni and Quadi tribes lived in Slovakia. Kelemantia site is also a rare archaeological site. Some of the remarkable pieces are a gold ring, small sculpture and torso.
Sometimes the best things are right near our home. We went cycling and just on our bicycles my husband showed us something extraordinary . It's an UNESCO Site, not crowded, open to the public for free and near to the river.
For families, it's open for educational trips. Children will know the stories of the Roman times that we have in Iža.
For history lovers like my husband an authentic glimpse in the past.
And for bikers, it's a fun and rewarding cycling experience. It's a perfect short trip that combines exercise, stunning views, relaxing ride along the Danube River and discovery of UNESCO Site.
