Walking at Gouves Seaside, November the 3rd. Is it worth it?

avatar

Today I wanted to take a walk at a nearby place. At the seaside village of Gouves in Crete. My initial plan was to go to the Saint Constantine chapel, take photos and videos - to write about that.

However, I forgot that it gets darker much more quickly now. It is November 3rd, and the sun goes down at appx 17:00 local time. But I arrived at 17:00 at the starting point, so this route was the best I could do.

How is Gouves in November?

The beginning of November is usually a mild time of the year, but this year it has been exceptionally warm and calm. The sea is so smooth that it might be even more tranquil than in August :) Some shops are closed, but you will still find places to shop, to relax with a coffee and of course to swim :)

Even though it was getting darker, there were still people swimming in the sea. That made me regret the fact that I did not make it to the beach today.

I continued walking & taking photos.
When I see cats, I usually cant help it so .. here is one of them!

Small, natural beach and fishing spot

As the visitor continues walking along the seaside, just a few moments away, they will spot a lovely little beach. At this spot, there is never wind! Right across, there are fishermen and walkers go by.

Even if it is November, you will find cafeterias that you can visit!

And finally, this is my destination.

Before I reach the chapel, one look behind will once more remind me that ...
the world is full of wonderful moments..

Saint Constantine Chapel

Saint Constantine chapel is a small stone-built church dedicated to Saints Constantine and Helen, the first Christian emperors of the Roman Empire. It was built in 1910.

The chapel has a white exterior with a blue arch roof and a single nave. Above the entrance, there is a mosaic of the two saints. It is surrounded by a stone wall and pine trees, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was getting dark so the colors are not the best.

Taking the road back home

I looked behind me, took a few last shots and started to walk back to my car.
It was getting darker and I did not want to stay out so late.

2 kilometers of walking

I left the car at the first point, then I walked to the second point and came back.
It took me approximately one hour, and it was almost totally dark when I arrived to my car.

What about Gouves Area?

Gouves, is a charming seaside village in the island of Crete, Greece and is nestled within the Hersonissos municipality. It is situated approximately 20 kilometers to the east of Heraklion city and Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport (HER).

Archaeological discoveries have revealed that the area has roots stretching back to the Minoan era. The name, "Gouves," is derived from "Gouva," which is the plural form of the word for "hollows," and it refers to the intriguing natural depressions scattered throughout.
