Vacation in Sabang: enjoy the beach and swim with the fish (Part 2)

I previously discussed Vacation in Sabang (Part 1) in a previous post, which you can revisit by clicking on the link. There I have written down the recommended places to visit, namely in the subheading "Place selection" in paragraph 17.

Time constraints prevented us from exploring many other beautiful places on our vacation. So we have decided to visit only a few of our favorite places, and we are committed to maximally exploring the places we choose to visit.

In Part 1, you have seen various photos and reviews of the Kilometer 0 Monument, which is the tourism icon of Sabang City. Part 2 is my promise to continue reviewing our other choices of vacation activities.

Our favorite vacation spots and activities

Iboih Beach

Iboih Beach is also one of the favorite tourist destinations for all tourists, both local and foreign. This beach can be reached in about 35 minutes or about 20.4 km from the center of Sabang City and is located on the path to the Zero-Kilometer Monument.

Iboih Beach is a beautiful white sand beach, located in a small bay and facing east, so every morning you can see the beautiful view of the sunrise from here.

The night view here is also very beautiful; as far as the eye can see, you will see the lights spreading all over the beach, and because it is in a small bay, you can also enjoy the calm of the night with the gentle breeze and the gentle sound of the waves.

Around Iboih Beach, there are many bungalows, homestays, and cottages that are right on the beach. There are also many food stalls, souvenir shops, and rental places for diving and snorkeling equipment. You will be greeted and served in a friendly manner by the managers there.

The sea water here is very clear and turquoise in color, so many visitors make this beach a place to swim, snorkel or fishing. I can even do it right from the door of the bungalow where we stay.

Even though there are many accommodations scattered throughout Sabang Island, whether in the form of hotels, bungalows, homestays, or cottages, we prefer to stay at one of the bungalows located on Iboih Beach because of the easy access to cross to Rubiah Island, and I can also go fishing with my son from the bungalows that we rent. All visitor needs are met at all outlets around this beach at affordable prices.

On this beach there is also a small pier, which is a crossing to go to Rubiah Island, and at night all the boats are moored at that small pier.

This small pier is also a place for fishing hobbyists to cast their hooks. I only do it at night so the waders don't feel disturbed; in fact, it is our fish that will feel disturbed if fishing during the day.

Rubiah Island

Rubiah Island is the most famous island among tourists compared to Rondo Island, Klah Island, or Seulako Island.

All tourists visiting Sabang will surely stop by this beautiful and interesting island. The distance between Iboih Beach and Rubiah Island Beach is only 500 meters, and you can reach it only by using a rented boat from local rental boat operators.

Early in the morning, we were getting ready to cross there; we even brought our breakfast with us to eat on the beach of Rubiah Island. We literally didn't eat our breakfast in the bungalow where we stayed. The call from the beach to Rubiah Beach is more tempting, and we really enjoyed our breakfast there.

There are two crossing transportation options to Rubiah Island, namely conventional speedboats and wooden boats. The two wooden boats joined together and floored in the middle have glass facilities to enjoy views of the seabed during the short crossing.

If you choose this wooden boat, then the shipping route will be longer because you will be taken around the bay first to enjoy the beautiful underwater scenery. All tourists do this before snorkeling or diving to enjoy coral reefs and various types of fish.

But seeing the coral reefs from the glass in the middle of a wooden boat will not be very satisfying; the facility is not very good compared to if you yourself plunged into the water to see them directly.

Swim with fish

The coral reefs around Rubiah Island are still well preserved. The surrounding community already has the awareness to protect their marine life together, and they have been doing this for generations. That's all they have to show tourists, and they've really taken care of it.

They have succeeded in maintaining their marine ecosystem well. This can be seen from the diversity of types of coral reefs that are there: hard coral reefs, dead coral reefs, and soft coral reefs. Tourists are generally permitted to snorkel in areas with dead coral reefs.

The coral reefs are a very comfortable home for the fish there, so snorkeling or diving activities here are very enjoyable. The fish there will swim around you, and they really accompany you as you swim.

Sumur Tiga Beach

Sumur Tiga Beach is very close to the center of Sabang City, which is only 2.4 km away; you only need to travel about 5 minutes to get there.

In the past, around the beach, there were three wells whose water was fresh even though they were on the beach. That was the basis for naming this beach. But now the three wells are no longer in use, have become old wells, and are only history.

This beach has soft white sand, clear and green seawater, and big waves; it faces directly to the Malacca Strait.

This beautiful beach also faces east, so the best time to visit there is in the morning to enjoy the sunrise. There, it is perfect to sit and sunbathe while enjoying the gentle breeze. You can enjoy a variety of typical Sabang food menus provided by the cafes that line the beach.

There are several forts left by the Japanese during WWII around this beach, which are reportedly no longer intact due to age. I didn't visit it; my children would be overwhelmed if they had to go up the hill because it was uphill and they had to walk.

All beach activities can be done in the Sumur Tiga beach area. Along the shoreline there are many coconut trees, which make the beach atmosphere beautiful and shady. You'll be as happy to linger there as we were.

If you have the opportunity to take a vacation, then Sabang is very worthy of being included in the list of places you must visit. We are already planning to visit it again on our next vacation, as there are still many beautiful places we haven't explored yet.
