Going along the main road in the mountains west of Montalbán, just a few hundred meters before reaching the “María La O” viewpoint, a small white sign with red letters indicates the point where the detour to the trail which leads to “Ziruma” starts...

Yendo por el camino principal de las montañas al Oeste de Montalbán, justo unos cientos de metros antes de llegar a el mirador "María La O", hay un pequeño letrero blanco con letras rojas el cual indica el punto donde comienza el desvío hacia el sendero que lleva a "Ziruma"...

I took advantage of a morning with a partly cloudy sky and temperatures not too high to begin my ascent with the firm intention of reaching the point in “Ziruma” where a good friend called “Israel” has a mountain cabin where tourists who visit our town and its surroundings often stay...

Aproveché una mañana con un cielo parcialmente nublado y temperaturas no demasiado altas para comenzar mi ascenso con la firme intención de alcanzar el punto en "Ziruma" en donde un buen amigo llamado "Israel" tiene una cabaña de montaña en la cual con frecuencia se alojan turistas que visitan nuestro pueblo y sus alrededores...

Once I turn west as the sign indicates, a wide path begins (4x4 vehicles can pass perfectly well) covered with low grass due to the little traffic through it... Of course the views are lovely and I stop every few meters with the intention to take pictures, look at the scenery and take a few breaks to prevent my not very well trained organism from collapsing... 🙂

Una vez giro hacia el Oeste tal como lo indica el letrero, comienza un sendero amplio (pueden pasar perfectamente vehículos 4x4) recubierto con césped de baja altura debido al poco transito a través de el... Por supuesto que las vistas son encantadoras y me detengo cada tantos metros con la intención de hacer fotos, mirar el paisajes y tomar algunos descansos que eviten que mi organismo no muy bien entrenado colapse... 😀

There were some fires in the drought months, but fortunately some recent rains have allowed nature to recover and the vegetation has partially greened up... Along the road, which has a distance of a little more than a kilometer to my friend's property, you can find some wire fences which can be opened without any problem, but you have to be careful to close them again to avoid the unwanted passage of cows and horses from one property to another... Another interesting thing to see are some rocks with strange shapes that do not seem to belong to that place and which I presume are consequences of landslides and other events that occurred some time ago...

Hubo algunos incendios durante los meses de sequía, afortunadamente algunos aguacero recientes han permitido que la naturaleza se recupere y la vegetación haya reverdecido parcialmente... Durante el camino, el cual tiene un recorrido de poco más de un kilómetro hasta la propiedad de mi amigo, se pueden encontrar algunos pasos alambrados los cuales se pueden abrir sin problema alguno, pero hay que tener el cuidado de volver a cerrarlos para evitar el paso indeseado de vacas y caballos de una propiedad a otra... Otra cosa interesante de ver son algunas rocas con formas extrañas que parecen no pertenecer a ese lugar y las cuales presumo son consecuencias de derrumbes y otros eventos ocurridos tiempo atrás...

After walking for a little more than half an hour, I arrive at the borders of my friend “Israel's” property. There a couple of his dogs appear behind the fence while barking to welcome me, they seem friendly and one of them even came up to me wagging his tail... A few minutes later my friend appeared, smiling as always and ready to open the fence which he keeps closed with a chain and padlock...

Después de caminar durante poco más de media hora, llego a los limites de la propiedad de mi amigo "Israel". Allí un par de sus perros aparecen tras la alambrada mientras ladran para recibirme, parecen amigable e incluso uno de ellos vino hasta a mí moviendo su cola... Pocos minutos después apareció mi amigo sonriente como siempre y presto a abrir el paso alambrado el cual él si mantiene cerrado con una cadena y candado...

My friend Israel is very kind and is used to receive visitors in his cabin, so as soon as we were close he showed me around. In the 16 years he has lived here I had never been here before.... The views of the landscapes are enchanting and I was also able to see my friend's old Jeep Wagoneer, with which he has been going back and forth on these roads constantly for more than 40 years. The construction of the cabin is solid, simple and efficient. Another thing I was delighted to see were the old seats of the old Montalban movie theater, I recognized them immediately as I sat in them hundreds of times during my childhood and adolescence. My friend's father-in-law was the owner of that old cinema which stopped working at the end of the 20th century...

Mi amigo Israel es muy amable y está acostumbrado a recibir visitas en su cabaña, así que apenas estuvimos cerca se dedicó a enseñarme el lugar. En los 16 años que él tiene viviendo aquí yo nunca había venido... Las vistas de los paisajes son encantadores y también pude observar la vieja Jeep Wagoneer de mi amigo, con la cual ha estado más de 40 años yendo y viniendo por estos caminos constantemente. La construcción de la cabaña es sólida, sencilla y eficiente. Otra cosa que me encantó ver fueron los viejos asientos del antiguo cine de Montalbán, los reconocí de inmediato pues me senté en ellos cientos de veces durante mi niñez y adolescencia. El suegro de mi amigo era el dueño de ese antiguo cine el cual dejó de funcionar a finales del siglo XX...

The place has electricity, wi-fi, hot water, kitchen, rooms for groups of up to 15 people plus outdoor areas with bathrooms and showers, where you can camp in tents for a very reasonable cost. After taking some pictures around the cabin, I decided to go up to the hills which rise behind the place and my friend offered to serve me as a guide along with one of his friendly dogs...

En el lugar hay electricidad, wi-fi, agua caliente, cocina, habitaciones para grupos de hasta 15 personas más áreas exteriores dotadas con baños y duchas, en donde se puede acampar en tiendas de campaña por un costo muy solidario. Después de hacer algunas fotos en los alrededores de la cabaña, decidí subir hasta las colinas las cuales se alzan detrás del lugar y mi amigo se ofreció a servirme como guía junto con uno de sus simpáticos perros...

The climb up into the hills is quite hard. It is just over 500 meters to the highest point of the property, but it is well worth the effort to enjoy the view from there... Israel and his collaborators (friends and family) extended the road for vehicles as high as possible, but at one point the terrain became fragile and prone to landslides, so from there on there are only trails on which you must walk with relative care to avoid making false steps... Fortunately my friend is always happy to accompany visitors on these types of hikes and his knowledge of the terrain makes them safe.

El ascenso a las colinas es bastante duro. Se trata de poco más de 500 metros hasta el punto más alto de la propiedad, pero bien vale la pena hacer este esfuerzo y disfrutar de la vista desde allí... Israel y sus colaboradores (amigos y familiares) extendieron el camino para autos lo más alto posible, pero en un punto el terreno se hizo frágil y proclive a derrumbes, así que de ahí e adelante solo hay senderos por los cuales se debe andar con relativo cuidado de no pisar en falso... Afortunadamente mi amigo siempre está dispuesto a acompañar a los visitantes en este tipo de caminatas y su conocimiento del lugar hace que estas sean seguras.

Around noon the sky seemed to be gradually clearing. So I asked my friend to return to the cabin with the intention of cooling off a bit, drinking some water and proceeding on my long walk back to town. However, the morning had been very good for me and my camera memory was full of pictures to share with you on #Hive... 🙂

Ya cerca del mediodía el cielo parecía estar despejándose gradualmente. Así que pedí a mi amigo que regresásemos a la cabaña con la intención refrescarme un poco, beber agua y proceder recorrer mi largo trayecto de retorno al pueblo. Sin embargo, la mañana había sido muy buena para mi y mi la memoria de mi cámara estaba repleta de fotografías para compartir con ustedes en #Hive... 🙂

On the way back to the cabin and walking with less effort, I enjoyed some landscapes which I hadn't seen for more than 20 years, when I used to come here to practice mountain motorcycling... My goodness, how time flies!... Nowadays I wouldn't dare to come up here on a motorcycle. But I have been able to come walking and take a lot of pictures while chatting happily with my old friend.

De retorno a la cabaña y caminando con menos esfuerzo, disfruté algunos paisajes los cuales no había visto desde hace más de 20 años, cuando yo solía venir aquí a practicar motociclismo de montaña... ¡Cielos, como pasa el tiempo!... Hoy en día no me atrevería a subir aquí montado en una motocicleta. Pero he podido venir caminando y hacer un montón de fotos mientras converso alegremente con mi viejo amigo.

I hope to return to this place and spend the night here sometime. I continue to be amazed at how these places in our mountains have evolved and how many options to be used as a base to explore even further I have at hand and how many I had overlooked....

Espero volver a este lugar y pernoctar aquí alguna vez. Sigo sorprendiéndome de como han evolucionado estos lugares en nuestras montañas y de cuantas opciones para ser usadas como base para explorar aún más lejos tengo a mano y cuantas había pasado por alto...
