The “Agua de Obíspo” valley is a place that can be reached from the urban area of Montalbán by traveling only about three kilometers through a rough asphalt road that goes from the town towards the south... You will arrive to a place with some houses surrounded by land mostly destined to pastures for cattle breeding, other lands are also destined to corn and tobacco plantations, although this happens mainly in the rainy season and now we are in January and it does not rain, reason why if we go to Agua de Obispo, we will see mainly rural scenes with cattle and bucolic landscapes whose colors begin to be those of the drought in these lands...

El valle de "Agua de Obíspo" es un lugar al cual se puede llegar desde el casco urbano de Montalbán recorriendo apenas unos tres kilómetros de una agosta carretera de asfalto que va del pueblo hacia el Sur... Se llega entonces a un lugar con algunas casas rodeadas de terrenos en su mayoría destinados a pastizales para la cría de ganado vacuno, otras tierras también son destinadas a siembras de maíz y tabaco, aunque esto sucede principalmente en temporada de lluvias y ahora estamos en Enero y no llueve, razón por la cual si vamos a Agua de Obispo, veremos principalmente escenas rurales con ganado vacuno y paisajes bucólicos cuyos colores comienzan a ser los de la sequía en estas tierras...

Everything becomes even more interesting and visually enchanting when we leave the hamlet behind, the asphalt disappears and the road becomes narrow and dirt. Then it is certain that we are arriving at the southern end of the valley and that we will be absolutely surrounded by terrain and landscapes that constitute a fascinating visual explosion. Then that is the moment when our camera becomes our best companion and we can dedicate ourselves to taking a lot of pictures that we will enjoy. This is especially true if you tour the valley during the early hours of the day... The warm light of a sunrise in Agua de Obispo has the quality of transforming the scenery into a planisphere of warm, eloquent colors. The day I did this ride I had for me a morning of clear and very blue skies, with just a bit of ground fog, which slowly evaporated as the sun ascended on the horizon and warmed the earth with generosity.

Todo se vuelve aún más interesante y visualmente encantador cuando se deja atrás el caserío, el asfalto desaparece y la carretera se hace estrecha y de tierra. Entonces es seguro que estamos llegando al extremo Sur del valle y que estaremos rodeados absolutamente por terrenos y paisajes que constituyen una explosión visual fascinante. Entonces ese es el momento en el que nuestra cámara se transforma en nuestra mejor compañía y podemos dedicarnos a hacer un montón de fotos que nos gustarán. Esto es especialmente cierto si usted recorre el valle durante las primeras horas del día. La luz cálida de un amanecer en Agua de Obispo tiene la cualidad de transformar el escenario en un planisferio de colores cálidos y elocuentes. El día que hice este paseo tuve para mi una mañana de cielos despejados y muy azules, con apenas un poco de niebla al ras del suelo, la cual se evaporó lentamente a medida que el sol subía en el horizonte y calentaba la tierra con su generosidad.

Being stopped at the side of the road taking pictures, I was fortunate to see my friend Alvaro, whom I have known for many years and with whom I share the love for nature and similar themes, coming by on his bicycle... Alvaro is a beekeeper and also a cattle breeder, he owns some land here which has belonged to his family for generations... After chatting for a few minutes about various topics, Alvaro told me that he was on his way to check on a small herd of young African buffalo that he had recently purchased and were grazing in one of his paddocks a little over a kilometer to the south... Alvaro asked me if I wanted to go along with him so that I would have the opportunity to see these animals and maybe take some pictures... And of course I accepted the invitation!... That's what I call being lucky!...

Estando detenido a la vera del camino haciendo fotos,sobre s tuve la fortuna de ver venir sobre su bicicleta a mi amigo Alvaro, a quien conozco desde hace muchos años atrás y con quien comparto la afición por la naturaleza y temas similares... Alvaro es apicultor y también criador de ganado vacuno, él posee algunas tierras aquí las cuales han pertenecido a su familia durante generaciones... Después de conversar durante algunos minutos sobre temas diversos, Alvaro me dijo que él iba rumbo a revisar una pequeña manada de jóvenes búfalos africanos que recién compró y estaban pastando en uno de sus potreros a poco más de un kilómetro al sur... Alvaro me preguntó si yo deseaba ir junto con él y de esta manera tendría la oportunidad de ver esos animales y quizás hacer algunas fotos... ¡Y claro que acepté la invitación!... ¡A eso llamo tener suerte, caray!...

After arriving at the property where my friend had his new herd of young buffalo grazing, I left my bike on a trail and started walking directly towards the group of animals. My friend shouted to me from a few meters behind: “Please Jesus, take the pictures from behind the fence, those animals are much more aggressive than the cows! I started shouting: “I'm vegetarian, I'm vegetarian, calm down guys, I'm vegetarian! while my friend Alvaro was laughing his head off and the young buffaloes were watching me take pictures and then proceed to open the gate of the fence to enter their paddock in a very uncautious way... I've really been a vegetarian for decades, but I'm not sure the buffalo understand Spanish or care about that even a little bit... hahaha :))

Después de llegar a la propiedad en donde mi amigo tenía pastando su nueva manada de jovenes búfalos, dejé mi bicicleta en un sendero y comencé a caminar directamente hacia el grupo de animales. Mi amigo me gritó desde algunos metros atrás: "¡Por favor Jesús, haz las fotos desde detrás de la alambrada, esos animales son mucho más agresivos que las vacas!"... Yo comencé a gritar: "¡Soy vegetariano, soy vegetariano, calma chicos, soy vegetariano! mientras mi amigo Alvaro se desternillaba de risa y los jóvenes búfalos me veían hacer fotos y luego proceder a abrir el portal de la alambrada para entrar en su potrero de manera poco cautelosa... En verdad soy vegetariano desde hace décadas, pero no estoy seguro de que los búfalos entiendan español o les importe eso siquiera un poco... hahaha :))

Alvaro kept saying things like: “If one of those animals kills you, I'll bury your body here and I won't tell anyone what happened, I don't want any problems”... Hahaha :)) My friend has an excellent humor for sure... The truth is that I was able to take a lot of buffalo pictures and that completed my lovely bike ride that day, it was wonderful... People here choose to breed buffaloes because of their fast development and low rate of disease affection, plus it is not easy for a rustler to steal a buffalo and they are much more aggressive than the local breed cows... They have as a disadvantage the fact that they need lagoons or ponds to rest in during the hottest hours, but fortunately in my friend's lands there are some lagoons (horribly green by the way) that are ideal for these animals to regulate their temperature.

Alvaro siguió diciendo cosas como: "Sí uno de esos animales te mata, enterraré tu cuerpo aquí y no diré a nadie lo sucedido, no quiero problemas"... Hahaha :)), mi amigo tiene un excelente humor en realidad... Lo cierto es que yo pude hacer un montón de fotos de búfalos y eso completó mi encantador paseo en bicicleta ese día, se manera maravillosa... La gente aquí opta por criar búfalos por su rápido desarrollo y baja tasa de afectación de enfermedades, además no es fácil para un cuatrero robar un búfalo y que son bastante más agresivos que las vacas de raza local... Tienen como desventaja el hecho de que necesitan lagunas o estanques en donde reposar durante las horas de mayor calor, pero afortunadamente en las tierras de mi amigo hay algunas lagunas (horriblemente verdes por cierto) que son ideales para que estos animales regulen su temperatura.

I said goodbye to my friend but not before thanking him for having allowed me to “get into a herd of young buffaloes to take pictures” and left him there on his land preparing to visit his bee hives, which I promised to visit another time when Alvaro has a second protective suit with mask to approach the boxes/hive where he collects honey...

Me despedí de mi amigo no sin antes agradecerle por haberme permitido "meterme en una manada de jóvenes búfalos a hacer fotos" y le dejé allí en sus tierras preparándose para ir a visitar sus colmenas de abejas, las cuales prometí visitar en otra oportunidad cuando Alvaro tenga a disposición un segundo traje protector con máscara para acercase a las cajas/colmena de donde colecta la miel...

On the way back I could afford to take a lot of additional pictures of landscapes and other interesting things like some beautiful horses that were watching me from the fences... Agua de Obispo is quite close to the urban center of Montalbán, but when you come to this place you have the feeling of being much further away, because this narrow valley has his own character and a wonderful rural atmosphere, which makes it worth to be visited and enjoyed.

Ya de regreso pude permitirme hacer un montón de fotografías adicionales de paisajes y otras cosas interesantes como algunos hermosos caballos que me observaban desde las alambradas... Agua de Obispo está bastante cerca del casco urbano de Montalbán, pero cuando uno viene a este lugar se tiene la sensación de estar mucho más lejos, pues este angosto valle tiene su carácter propio y una atmósfera rural maravillosa, la cual lo hace digno de ser visitado y disfrutado.
