On the banks of the Orinoco River in El Burro - Puerto Ayacucho, Amazonas [Esp-Eng]

There are many parts of Puerto Ayacucho where you can stand on the banks of the Orinoco River, a truly impressive river that I have a great deal of respect for, not to say fear. It is so immense, so deep, and so powerful that honestly no one can know exactly what is in it, what it has taken, what has accidentally fallen into it, or even the animal species that have grown larger because of all the freedom of space the river provides them.

The thing is, even though it scares me a little, I have still bathed in it and I am very fond of it. In fact, it is the first river I ever knew, and despite its strong currents and so on, it is not cold but warm, which many people like. The thing is, the first time I saw it was in this same town about nine years ago. I remember it was just dawn, and the first thing I saw in front of me after a long journey was that river, which, due to the season of the year I visited, was a little different from the Orinoco in the photos.

Hay muchísimas partes de puerto Ayacucho en las que se puede estar a la orilla del Río orinoco, un Río súper imponente y al cual yo le tengo muchísimo respeto, por no decir miedo. Es tan inmenso, tan profundo y con tanta fuerza, que honestamente nadie puede saber con exactitud todo lo que hay en el, lo que ha tomado, lo que por accidente ha caído en el, o incluso las especies animales que han desarrollado un tamaño más grandes por toda la libertad de espacio que el río les brinda.

La cosa es que aunque por supuesto que me da algo de miedo, aun así, me he bañado en el y le tengo también mucho cariño, de hecho es el primero río que conocí, que pese a tener fuertes corrientes y demás, no es frío sino que es tibio, lo cual a muchos les gusta. La cosa es que la primera vez que lo conocí, fue en este mismo pueblo hace unos 9 años, recuerdo que recién estaba amaneciendo, y lo primero que vi frente a mi después de un largo viaje, fue aquel río que debido a la temporada del año que visité, estaba un poco diferente al orinoco de las fotos.

Since then, the Orinoco River has become a very special river for me, as it was the first river I ever sailed on. Here, in a small town called El Burro, is where you first see the Orinoco River when traveling to Puerto Ayacucho. It connects three places: Puerto Paez, which is part of another state in Venezuela called Apure; Puerto Carreño, a small town in Colombia; and El Burro and Puerto Carreño, which can only be reached by the Orinoco River.

So, whether you want to or not (I always want to), you stop here in this little town of El Burro, and usually, you can see the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises, yes, right there, sitting on the riverbank. This time, the stop was made in the afternoon, so although I didn't see the sunset, I did see the natural beauty of the river. At this time of year, it hadn't rained too much, so the water level had dropped a little and it looked cloudier than usual. Usually, its color is a little more brown, but you can still see the surface clearly.

Desde entonces el Río Orinoco se convirtió en un río muy especial para mí, por el que por primera vez navegué. Aquí, en un pueblito llamado el Burro, es la primera vez que vez el Río orinoco cuando viajas a Puerto Ayacucho, este une 3 lugares, Puerto Paez que es parte de otro estado de Venezuela llamado Apure, y Puerto Carreño que es un pueblito de Colombia, y al Burro y a Puerto Carreño solo se les puede llegar por el Río Orinoco.

Así que, siempre quiera uno o no (yo siempre quiero), se hace una parada aquí en este pueblito El Burro, y por lo general, se observan los más bonitos atardeceres y Amaneceres, si, justo ahí, sentada a la orilla del río. Esta vez la parada se hizo por la tarde, así que aunque no vi el atardecer, si vi la belleza natural del Río, esta época que no había llovido demasiado, sus aguas habían bajado un poco y se veía más turbia que se costumbre. Por lo general, su color es un poco más marrón, pero aún así se puede ver con claridad la superficie.

I have never swum in this part of the river. To be honest, it scares me because it seems very deep. In addition, the barge, which is a kind of steel plate that transports cars, buses, and motorcycles from one town to another with a ferry, passes through this area as a means of transportation. However, I am happy to reach this point in the journey because there I sit on the riverbank for hours, simply observing the beauty in front of me, fishing birds, fish that suddenly jump out of the water, and how relaxing it is to listen to the waves formed by the breeze on the river.

Of course, as is characteristic of the Amazon, there are rocks everywhere, with their dark brown color and shapes so different from anything I had ever seen in my life. These always serve as seats for when you want to stand in front of the river to observe, and they also serve as a guide to know how much the river has grown, since many of them are submerged when it rises, and sometimes even disappear completely. It is simply impressive. The ferry takes its time on the river and also picking up the different vehicles that will cross to the other side, so the time you spend on the Burro depends on which side of the river the ferry is on.

En esta parte del Río, nunca me he bañado, la verdad me da mucho miedo, porque parecer ser muy muy profundo, además la chalana, que es una especie de plancha de acero que pasa a los autos, autobuses y motos de un pueblo a otro con un transbordador pasa por esta zona como trasporte. Sin embargo, me hace feliz llegar a este punto del viaje, porque alli me siento a la orilla del río durante horas, simplemente observando la belleza que esta frente a mi, pájaros pescadores, peses que brincan de pronto y lo relajante que es escuchar las olas qué se forman en el río por la brisa.

Por supuesto como caracteriza a Amazonas, hay rocas por todas partes, con su color marrón oscuro y esas formas tan distintas a todas las que yo había visto en mi vida. Estas siempre sirven de asiento para cuando quieres pararte frente al río a observar, y también te sirven de guía para saber cuanto a crecido el río, ya que muchas de ellas que dan debajo cuando este crece, e incluso a veces desaparecen todas por completo, es simplemente impresionante. La chalana tarda su tiempo en el río y también recogiendo a los diferentes vehículos que pasaran al otro lado, por lo que el tiempo que pasas en el Burro depende de que lado del río este la chalana.

This time, we spent several hours waiting, but I feel like it wasn't enough, because as I mentioned, watching the sunsets from there, that wide-open sky that blends with the river on the horizon, is something very impressive to see, and this time we left before the sun went down. Even so, I had a great time. That was like Amazonas' farewell to me, a moment of its waters rippling in front of me, and giving me the best of all breezes.

In short, this little town, although small and seemingly just a stopover for many, is very special and impressive to me, even symbolic, because it is your entrance, your welcome to that magical place, and it feels like a big hug, but it is also your farewell when you return, and how beautiful that is. It is simply the last memory you make on a special trip, in which the Orinoco River is always the star.

Esta vez, pasamos varias horas esperando, pero siento que no las suficientes, porque como mencioné ver los atardeceres desde ahí, ese cielo tan abierto que en el horizonte se mezcla con el río es algo muy impresionante de ver y esta vez nos fuimos antes de que el sol bajara. Aun así, lo pasé muy bien. Esa fue como la despedida que me dio Amazonas, un rato agitando sus aguas frente a mi, y regalandome las mejores de todas las brisas.

En definitiva este pueblito, aunque pequeño y que parece ser para muchos una simple parada, para mi es demasiado especial e impresionante y hasta simbólico, porque es tu entrada, tu bienvenida a aquel mágico lugar, y se siente como un fuerte abrazo, pero también es tu despedida cuando estas de regreso, y que bonito que así sea. Simplemente es el último recuerdo que fabricas en un viaje especial, en el que el Río Orinoco no deja de ser el protagonista.
