Inside Andrićgrad and the spirit of the Balkans in Višegrad

Hello everyone. After our unforgettable cruise along the Drina River, we arrived in the charming town of Višegrad. We disembarked slowly and entered one of the most fascinating places in the region: Andrićgrad.

Built as a tribute to Ivo Andrić, the celebrated writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature, Andrićgrad felt like a journey through time.

The atmosphere was simply amazing. Tucked between the river and the surrounding hills, this stone town blends different architectural styles and historical periods, creating a place where the past feels vividly alive.

As we wandered through its cobbled streets, the irresistible aroma of grilled meat called ćevapi and freshly baked pastries filled the air.

For lunch, we stopped at Anika, where we tasted authentic Višegrad ćevapi.

Served in warm flat bread with onions and dried paprika, they were every bit as delicious as we had hoped.

We also noticed the famous Kasaba restaurant, known for serving Sarajevo-style ćevapi. While it is a beloved tourist spot, we were determined to try the traditional Višegrad version.

Our walk continued past the monument to Mehmed Paša Sokolović and his brother, a reminder of the region's rich and complex history.

We explored the Byzantine Court.

Also admired the Turkish Square, and soaked in the unique blend of cultures.

I liked the murals. The city has an artistic spirit as well.

And lovely souvenirs in Turkish style. One can notice the great influence of Turkish from the past.

I wish there was more time to visit the whole town of Višegrad, but we only had 2 hours, which flew by in such a beautiful environment.

Andrićgrad in Višegrad is a place where literature, history, and gastronomy come together and you simply love it.

Thank you for reading.

This one is in Bosnia, more precisely in Republika Srpska. I haven't heard of that one in Hungary, I'll look it up, I'm curious 😊
