Back to the 13th century - St. Stephen's Monastery in Slanci, Serbia

Lately, the road often takes me to a part of Belgrade where I have never been before. Unfortunately, due to the death of my father, I often go to the cemetery in that area. It is Visnjicka banja, an old neighborhood of Belgrade. After this settlement, the road continues to a village called Slanci, and we recently went there out of curiosity to see how it is. We heard that there is an old landmark there, even from the 13th century - a monastery dedicated to the holy Archdeacon Stefan.

It is just a short drive from the busy streets of Belgrade, hidden in the rural agricultural environment where the locals grow fruits and vegetables.

Throughout centuries, Slanci faced destruction, abandonment, and rebuilding, much like the other monasteries and landmarks in Serbia.

In the 20th century, it was restored and brought back to life, serving again as a place of prayer and peace.

What I loved most during my visit was the tranquility. The moment you pass through the monastery gates, the city noise disappears. Storks live here and you can see them in their large nests.

We entered the church to see what it was like. Inside, although very modestly, some valuable icons can be seen.

I also enjoyed walking around the monastery grounds, where monks cultivate gardens and keep animals. It adds to the impression that life here flows in harmony with nature.

This place is humble and simple but if you need peace it could be a good choice. It is not just a religious site but also a place to pause, reflect, and recharge your spirit.
