Motorhoming in the New Forest, UK

As sunshine was forecast for the coming week, I decided to visit a friend in Dorset, England. From there, we set off in the motorhome for a campsite in the neighbouring county of Hampshire, in the New Forest.

The New Forest is a place where ponies, horses, and cattle roam free, though they are owned by local people. We arrived on a gloriously sunny day and soon settled in at the campsite.

We are, quite literally, camping in the middle of the forest. One of the nicest things is being able to choose your own camping spot to park up in. The area was actually an airfield during the Second World War. After wandering around for a while, we settled on a secluded spot so we weren't too near other dogs.

From what I've seen so far, it looks as though there are going to be a lot of walking opportunities. The pooch is going to love it here. Easter week is usually busy but this is an adults only site, so at least it will be nice and quiet. Well until we arrived that is! It's also cheap as there's no toilets and showers. Most people are in motorhomes so they can use their own facilities. There's also a five minute walk to the second campsite that has more facilities, so all is not lost!

After we had something to eat we did an hour's circular walk through the forest. Most of the walk was on an easy, wide footpath, though near the end of our walk we found ourselves having to scramble over a fence before returning to the motorhome. It's hard to believe that a few days ago I still had my gloves and scarf on as the weather is quite warm at the moment. First time this year, I've been for a walk without having a coat on.

My friend's dog is a lover not a fighter, so he loves the donkeys, ponies that walk through the campsite. 🙂

That's always a relief, to have a friendly dog. Our dogs were on both sides - extremely friendly or even shy, and looking for a fight constantly.

Have a great Friday and weekend.
