A Walk Around Beeley Village with Piggy Paths and The Reading Rooms

We visited the quaint village of Beeley in Derbyshire, UK that is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Strolling along its narrow lanes, it felt as though we had stepped back in time, especially with the stone cottages.

Along the walk, there was a box inviting you to buy fresh eggs. I really like these village touches. They give you a sense of community where people help each other. Although this morning they'd run out of eggs!

Our stroll took us past the Old Reading Rooms, a lovely stone cottage. The Rooms used to be a Victorian meeting place where locals got together to read and chat. It's funny how book clubs are still going on today. The cottage is now privately owned.

Just a short walk away, we stumbled across Pig Lane! I love olde worldly names like these. The lane was once the main road to Chatsworth House, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire which is set in acres of gardens and parkland. There may have been pigsties along this road, hence the name Pig Lane.

There's no vehicular access at the end now, but you can still walk over the fields.

For families living in the village, there is the children’s play area, with yellow daffodils swaying in the breeze. It's beginning to look like spring.

Around the village you will see doors, windows and gates etc painted in the same blue colour. Usually, this means the properties are owned by the Chatsworth Estate.

At St Anne's Church, the sun was shining through the stained glass windows.

In the graveyard, there was a very large yew tree. We were taught at school that yew trees were planted in graveyards to ward off the devil, protect against the plague, or purify the soil in which people's bodies were buried. Take your pick!

Cavendish Hall (with summer house) is the local community hub that is used for certain social activities.

Beeley Brook flows through the village and has several mini waterfalls.

The village of Beeley is definitely a place that you have to take your time to take it all in. Even though it is relatively small, it has lots of interesting and quirky things to look at, such as the decorative stone in the wall.
