Hola amigos, hoy quiero contarles sobre un lugar muy lindo e interesante. Se llama Plazoleta Jairo Varela, también conocida como la Plaza de las Trompetas, y se encuentra en la ciudad de Cali, Colombia. Este monumento fue inaugurado en el año 2010 en honor a Jairo Valera, creador del Grupo Niche, un grupo de salsa colombiana fundado aproximadamente en 1979 y uno de los más influyentes de su época, ganando diversos premios a lo largo de su carrera. La plaza hace homenaje a los trombones y trompetas, instaladas en la plazoleta.
Hello friends, today I want to tell you about a very nice and interesting place. It is called Plazoleta Jairo Varela, also known as the Plaza de las Trompetas, and it is located in the city of Cali, Colombia. Esta plaza es muy concurrida tanto de día como de noche, ya que es uno de los lugares representativos de la ciudad. La estructura tiene aproximadamente unos 8 metros de altura, con tipografías que representan elementos de viento, trompetas y tambores, siendo estos instrumentos unos de los componentes más utilizados en el grupo musical. Dentro de las trompetas se forma la palabra "Niche" en homenaje al grupo, y se reproducen algunas de sus canciones más famosas.
The structure is approximately 8 meters high, with typographies representing wind elements, trumpets and drums, being these instruments some of the most used components in the musical group. Inside the trumpets the word "Niche" is formed in homage to the group, and some of their most famous songs are reproduced.
Además, junto al monumento hay un pequeño museo dedicado a Jairo Varela, ya que gracias a él nació el Grupo Niche, uno de los más grandes grupos de salsa en el país, que se hizo mundialmente conocido. En el museo se puede encontrar la historia y trayectoria del grupo, así como el proceso de creación del monumento.
In addition, next to the monument there is a small museum dedicated to Jairo Varela, since thanks to him the Grupo Niche was born, one of the biggest salsa groups in the country, which became known worldwide. In the museum you can find the history and trajectory of the group, as well as the process of creation of the monument.
La plaza es un lugar totalmente público, con vigilancia policial, y no tiene ningún costo de entrada, solo se solicita una pequeña colaboración para acceder al museo. Dentro de las trompetas, las personas suelen entrar para escuchar música e incluso bailar un poco al ritmo de buena música. Me pareció muy curioso e interesante desde el primer día que fui, y me gustó bastante la idea y el homenaje a una persona que tuvo una gran influencia en el mundo de la salsa.
The square is a totally public place, with police surveillance, and has no entrance fee, only a small collaboration is requested to access the museum. Inside the trumpets, people usually enter to listen to music and even dance a little to the rhythm of good music. I found it very curious and interesting from the first day I went, and I quite liked the idea and the tribute to a person who had a great influence in the world of salsa.
