Magical fairy-tale colored rock's miracle hanging over the sea, Manarola, Italy ๐๐ชจ๐ฐ๐๏ธ๐ฟ
One of the most fascinating and impressive places I visited during my summer tour of Europe by car was Manarola. Simply an incredible colorful, colorful, multi-level town on a cliff above the sea.
It is a unique experience to wander inside such places in person, you never believe that this is reality because in pictures these places look like a cartoon drawing. I never thought that in reality there could be something so diverse, multifaceted, bright, original.
As we walked along the steep slope of the streets of Manarola, I was immediately struck by the authenticity that emanates from every stone. The houses with colorful facades, characteristic of the Genoese style, seem to stand on top of each other, forming a kaleidoscope of colors that beautifully contrasts with the deep blue of the Ligurian Sea.
These dwellings, called "case-torri" or towers, were once designed to optimize space on steep slopes and provide protection from invasions. Manarola has a rich and ancient history.
Founded in the 12th century, it is considered one of the oldest in the Cinque Terre. The name "Manarola" probably comes from the term "magna rota", meaning "great wheel", in reference to the ancient water mill that once stood in the village.
In the center of the village stands the church of San Lorenzo, built in 1338 in the Ligurian Gothic style. Its restrained facade is decorated with an exquisite marble rose, and inside you can admire several finely crafted triptychs, including one from the 14th century.
Walking to the small port, I admire what is happening there. Fishing was an important component of Manarola's economy, along with viticulture. Stone terraces called "muretti" form the surrounding hills, where vineyards are grown, from which the famous local wine Sciacchetrร is produced, a sweet and rare wine appreciated by connoisseurs.
Continuing my walk, I discover the "Via dell'Amore" or "Path of Love", a picturesque path carved into the rock that connects Manarola to Riomaggiore. This path offers stunning views of the coast and is a popular spot for couples and photographers.
Unfortunately, some sections can be closed due to landslides, but the first few meters remain accessible. As the sun sets over the horizon, the village takes on a golden glow. The colors of the houses become even more vibrant, and the peaceful atmosphere invites contemplation.
I sit on a bench, watching the waves gently crash against the rocks, and the parked fishing boats sway, people calmly relax on the warm rocks enjoying the beautiful waterfall sometimes plunging into the cold turquoise water.
The observation deck above the waterfall is very beautiful to watch the sunset. And in general, this grandeur of these three-story houses that hang over you is breathtaking and breathtaking. And also these beautiful pine branches hanging over the sea add zest and freshness to the photographs.
Manarola is not only a place of visual beauty, but also a living testament to the history and traditions of Liguria. Every corner of the village tells a story, every stone whispers the echo of the past.
This is a place where time seems to stop, offering a magical interlude far from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. This village, with its extraordinary beauty and rich heritage, will remain in my memory as one of the most precious gems of my trip to Europe.
