Bassiano, a hidden gem among the high mountains and green meadows of Italy, is a living testament to the passage of time. Its medieval village of Bassiano became my own personal portal to the past, with its winding cobbled streets and ancient secrets ready to be revealed.

My journey into the heart of this historic center was not just a visit, but an immersion in a world frozen in time. Having chosen to live within the walls of the city, behind the majestic gates that whispered echoes of past centuries, I plunged into the authenticity of medieval life.

The apartment with worn stones and rustic charm has become a refuge where the line between the present and the past is blurred. We lived on the first floor and instead of an ordinary door there was a large heavy gate and only one small window above it.

Since the apartment was without sufficient window access to it, we constantly drank coffee sitting under the door on the stone steps, this experience was definitely not repeated by anyone before.

And people who came only for an excursion to walk in this tourist place looked at us as aborigines as they passed by. Guided by the Zelya drone, my exploration went beyond narrow lanes.

IMG_20231210_234108.jpg

From above, Bassiano revealed itself as a charming oval-shaped city surrounded by a formidable stone wall that told stories of invasions and triumphs.

The great gate, the only entrance to this historic haven, stood as a guardian of a bygone era. As the drone hovered, capturing limited but valuable images, the cityscape unfolded in exquisite architectural detail.

The stone structures, each bearing the scars of time, testify to the resilience of the community, which has withstood medieval upheavals and modern changes. You cannot cross Bassiano without realizing the importance of its protective wall.

This architectural wonder not only protected the city from external threats, but also witnessed the development of the plot of its history. Traces of repairs and reconstructions told about sieges, restorations and the steadfast spirit of its inhabitants.

Exploring the labyrinthine alleys, every step became a dance with history. The walls, decorated with ivy and age, whispered of the knights and craftsmen who once walked these paths. A vivid recreation of medieval life unfolded before my eyes, fueled by the same stones that adorned the streets.

IMG_20231210_233700.jpg

The historical facts flowed seamlessly into my personal narrative when I learned that Bassiano's stone structures date back to Roman times. The city's strategic location created a vantage point for observation, which influenced its role in various historical conflicts.

IMG_20231210_234359.jpg

Medieval architecture, preserved with a sense of reverence, has become a living museum that combines the past and the present. The limited Zelya drone photos, while capturing the essence of the city, failed to fully convey the emotional resonance of my experience.

Each image told a story, but in Bassiano's heart there were moments of connection with his story: the touch of ancient stones, the echo of footsteps in narrow passages and quiet conversations with a city that has stood the test of time.

What a beauty. It looks as if they built the city from the sky to shape it. Zelya is so lucky... no, you... no... us. Well, all of us!

I love walls with ivy. Those callenos look very interesting too.

Yea, I guess it's not accidentally, I'm sure they were building this by special plan about shape really
There are no ivy walls directly in the city. but there are enough hills all around green
anyway I'm glad that you were exited about this place:)💕🙏🏻
