Beautiful port city, Genoa, Italy.

The Genoa port is a very scenic place and probably the most wonderful evening walk you can have in the city. The beaches are nice, but just to relax and have a nice stroll, the port is by far the best place. For one, it reminded me of Deira corniche and Buheira corniche. Well, at least the old Dera and Buheira corniche, way before they turned into modern and touristic getaways. Genoa Port has found a balance between giving its visitors the comfort of everything contemporary but also keeping it rooted in its rich past.

The vibe is pretty similar to the corniches of my childhood. But how do corniches on the other side of the world have to do anything to do with a beautiful European port?

There is a beautiful "safeena" on the water next to the Aquarium of Genoa. During the day it looks very beautiful and there are a bunch of people that pile up in the front of this ship to take pictures with it. During the day a lot of people, especially children, were getting inside. The galleon is massive and majestic, especially when looking at it from the harbour.

At night it is not given much attention, but do you know what it is?

It is a life size, full scale replica galleon that was made for a movie. This 17th century Spanish ship was made for a movie called "Pirate" and after the shooting, it travelled quite a few places before ending up here on this beautiful port. If you come here with kids it could be a nice place to get inside and look at. It is pretty close to the original except less dangerous now ;)

There are lot to do with kids even if the galleon is closed during the night. Like these air castles and slides. They are exactly opposite to the beautiful ship. On the other side, there are a few fast food restaurants with a kid's play area in front of them. I think it is mostly the ship and these kids' play area zones that reminded me of the corniches back in birth-country. Also the humidity and the heat.

I sort of fell in love with the atmosphere. I noticed myself relaxing and taking slower steps. I mean do we not all do that when we feel comfortable? It was sort of a cosiness that is hard to explain. Singles, couples, and families, just enjoying in the port, walking, sitting, or even singing. A sort of calm that is not so available here during the day.

I was however left looking for restaurants. I was told there are plenty of places to get food from in the port area. I realized "a lot" can mean a lot of different things. Opposite the water, right at the centre of the port, there aren't too many options. The places that sell meals during the day turn into bars during the night. Most of the places were serving drinks and it was quite a place to have a chilled one.

The nice places are actually across the road. There are restaurants on the higher floors of the buildings and there you can both have a very nice view of the port as well as get a quick meal. But if you are looking just for food, then you'll have to walk a little to find good options. And when it is Italy, good options are plenty!

I did not expect it to be as crowded as it was. Granted, it is extremely empty when compared to the amount of people that are here during the day. It almost feels like the entire world is here and there is hardly any space.

But that's the thing. In Italy, people value family time and leisure. In the port, on the eastern side of it, there is a huge "social" area. Large open ground with beautiful palm trees towering over the heads. Bright and well-lit "square" where people have come to enjoy the weather and free time. There are a few tourists, but most are locals.

There are kids in the play zone with their mums and pops. People are getting their jogging done. And some are just chilling on the benches. It is such a relaxing atmosphere. There is also music playing. In some parts of the port, there are street performers singing or playing music and it is just a cozy vibe.

Considering how important the port is historically and to date, it is also just as important for the people who live in the area. A nice, well-kept space for the people to come and enjoy their leisure time.

The view certainly helps! On one side you have the gorgeous waters of the Mediterranean and on the other side, you have the beautiful buildings of Italy. It is great and all, when you visit it during the day, especially if you are coming for the aquarium or the chair lift. It is just as cool at night. I was here when I lined up for the aquarium, and it honestly felt like nothing special. The only part I genuinely liked was the water. And now I know why...it is because I never really got to see and appreciate this space in its entirety.

If you thought the ship that was built for a movie in Tunisia, then went to France, and then ended up in Italy was absurd. Then get ready for a new surprise. A statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the port of Genoa in Italy. It painted me completely surprised. It is a symbol of peace and is situated in a very cool spot, in front of the remainder of a castle that is now used as a clinic/pharmacy (afaik).

There are also a lot of wonderful ladies on the benches who braid hair. I have never done it and my hair has never grown to that length, but it was very interesting. The world is so small right? They have brought their traditional hairstyle from another part of the world and offering to share it with us. How cool is that? Unfortunately, not many people availed of this special chance to get their hair braided, just like myself.

My uncle used to live here for 5 years and he always told me this is one of the beautiful cities to live in. Fewer tourists and fewer crowds compared to Milan and Rome. The food was really good here and cheap as well. Thanks for writing this post...

It's a nice plan to spend 5 years in. I liked it more than Milan, that's for sure. During the day this specific spot is filled with tourist. But other than that, day or night, its pretty chill. Thanks for visitng

It's a very beautiful place. In the pictures you can also see other elements like the steel decorations and the artwork. All of that adds to the aesthetics of the space.

Now that’s a side of Italy you don’t hear of much. The Ghandhi statue and women doing braids completely surprised me.
