Carvoeiro Boardwalk and Algar Seco
On our little day trip on the weekend two weeks ago I haven´t told you about that beautiful Boardwalk near the small town of Carvoeiro.
If you have missed the first part of that trip have a look here.

We´ve actually been here already and also parked near that boardwalk but had totally overlooked it. So we were quite surprised about it when we´ve found it by accident on that day and realised we parked directly behind it. :)
Since the inland of the Algarve isn´t that spectacular, the portuguese try to get the best out of their coastline. Thats why you have all these wooden boardwalks along the beautiful golden sandstone cliffs above the beaches. Now in winter I see them building new ones and restore old ones in almost every town.
This one, starting above the town of Carvoeiro and leading to the even more beautiful caves looks relatively new as well and on a day like that it is the best you can do...at least in my opinion.
You will find several benches as well as lookout platforms, overlooking the blue ocean and the golden sandstone cliffs along the way.
After roughly 1km you will arrive at the Algar Seco caves, were you can easily spend another hour exploring the caves and small pools.
As always we had our lunch with us, spotted a nice place sheltered from the wind and had a quick bite before we explored everything.
Some steep steps leading you down to the water and the caves. If you´re fit enough and are able to climb a little bit you can do something like a roundtrip.
Places like this one always awake my inner child. I simply love to explore things like these caves, climb over sandstone cliffs and enjoy stunning views.
Just because I was curious I climbed around one corner of the cliffs and found some stairs carved into the sandstone. I wonder how old it is. It looked a bit adventurous but it was save enough to quickly run up the steps.
On the other side there were some fisherman trying to catch the dinner for that night. Furthermore I found a whole in the sandstone that almost looked like a heart.
But the coolest thing by far was the Boneca's Cave. A small tunnel that leads you to a window overlooking the ocean. The contrast between the golden sandstone and the crystal blue ocean always amazes me.
When we were here in portugal last winter we thought we had already seen it all. But then you always find such gems. Whenever you think your one week holiday on the algarve is more than enough to see it all, I can tell you that you´re wrong. There is so much to see and explore that it is impossible to do it in one, two or even three weeks.
you will find that post on pinmapple as well

Wow - that is very very stunning! Not just surf then?!
It truly is. Oh no, especially the south coast has absolutely stunning coastline and lots of things to see and explore. I guess if there would be the same sized waves in the south these sandstone cliffs would be already gone :)
