A sunday at the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Yesterday we went out to explore the nearby nature again. Although we´ve seen almost everything here on the sunshine coast it is always nice to be outside in nature and you never know what you will see and experience.

We went to the hinterland of the sunshine coast where you will find lots of forests, waterfalls and all other kinds of amazing nature including wildlife. Since I`m using my telelense again I´m always looking out for wildlife and most of the times I´m pretty lucky...as I was yesterday.

First we went to the Lake Baroon, that is part of the Kondalilla Nationalpark just to find out that all walking tracks are currently closed. Hope they open up at the end of the months as promised on the sign. So we changed our plan without further ado and went to the Kodalilla waterfall, which is not too far away.

They have an important message right at the entrance of the walk.

We´ve been here a few times already but there are many different walking tracks and the forest is absolutely stunning so it doesn´t get boring to come here often. We did not come to see the waterfall, that usually doesn´t have much water in winter anyways. We just wanted to breath the fresh air of the forest and see if we can find some wildlife.

Well, what should I say, it did not took long to find three Kookaburra sitting in a tree. These three were very easy to take photos of as they were looking out for food on the ground. They simply sat there until they saw a worm or anything else, flew down, ate it and went up again. It was so much fun observing them and taking lots of photos. I don´t want to show them all as there will be an extra post about it in the next photofeed edition.

This happened before we even entered the forest and I took even more photos on the way out. From here we went into the forest on a track towards the Obi Valley Lookout. As beautiful as this forest is it was pretty cold that morning and I should have packed warmer clothes. That forest is very densely grown and there is hardly any sun coming through.

There are also a few little waterfalls and a small creek running through that forest.

After around 1.5km we reached the Obi Lookout, a platform from where you can overlook the Obi Valley. Absolutely stunning with its lush green trees and the beautiful sky.

From here it took us maybe another 15min walk to reach the Kondalilla Rock Pools and waterfall and as we expected there was hardly any water.

From here the real walks start. You can walk a circle track that leads you down to the bottom of the waterfall and up again. You can also walk until the Lake Baroon where we had been before but thats around 12km and at one point you will most likely stand in front of a closed track. :)

The water in that pool was icy cold but a few young guys went in and their bodies turned red immediately. I would guess the temperature is way below 20 degree, maybe 15 or even less.

The view from up here is pretty amazing as well and you can see some of the Lookouts that you can enjoy if you´re brave enough to do the longer walks.

It was already midday but still so cold and the wind did not make it any better so we headed back to the car park. On the way back we found some funny trees and some other surprise...

I have noticed that most people run through these forests like they want to win a marathon or something like that instead of being a bit more mindful and don´t talk nonstop. If they would do, they would see what I always see on these explorations.

When we were alone and there were no others next to us I notived a rustle in the woods. It´s always hard to actually see anything although you can hear it already but suddenly a small Wallaby appeared.

I don´t know what it is but it always fascinates me if I see wildlife and if you don´t disturb them they usually don´t run away. Most people start to talk and be like "oh look look there is a..." and its gone. I always try to stand still and don´t make any noise. Most of them have bad eyes but very good ears.

We even stared at each other for a while. Unfortunately I could not get any closer without leaving the track. Thats why these are the best two shots I could get.

Luckily that forest has so much more to offer you just need to see it.
