My visit to Purpurina alley, decorated with murals and colorful umbrellas (Eng - Esp)
Greetings fellow travelers! It's a pleasure to share a new tour of Cumaná, the first city born on the American continent, which celebrated its 510th birthday last month. For this occasion, in addition to displaying beautiful facades that recreate the colonial, independence, and ancestral eras, a beautiful alley known as La Purpurina was inaugurated. Why this name? Who is La Purpurina? She is a well-known lady in the city who used to walk the streets in the blazing sun, carrying a box of objects, accompanied by her dog. They called her "the glitter" because of the amount of powder she used for makeup. Regularly, on her walks, she strolled through the city center and never lacked her precious box with various objects and her faithful companion, a dog that followed her everywhere she went. In honor of this picturesque and unique character, the newly inaugurated street, located between Sucre Street (Historic Center) and Aristiguieta Avenue, which passes behind Guaiquerí Park, was named after her. This avenue is the one that leads to Cumanacoa, capital of the Montes municipality.
The alley is decorated at the top with umbrellas of various colors, which in turn have light bulbs and Christmas lights. At night, the view is incredible. On the day of my visit, there were many people taking photos and filming videos with its beautiful murals in the background. I had to wait more than an hour to enter, take the photos, and make a short video. The walls are decorated with facades of colonial houses, showing windows with bars, many flowers, and doors that were generally made of wood, decorated with squares and carvings. The houses were also characterized by having flowering plants at the top of the walls. The walls are separated by black or brown lines, which delineate the houses represented in the murals.
Saludos amigos viajeros es un placer compartir un nuevo recorrido por la ciudad de Cumaná primogénita del continente americano, que celebró su cumpleaños número 510 el mes pasado, para esta ocasión, además de colocar hermosas fachadas que recrean la época colonial, independentista y ancestral, se inauguró un hermoso callejón conocido como la Purpurina, por qué este nombre? ¿quién es la purpurina? Es una señora muy conocida de la ciudad que solía recorrer las calles a pleno sol, llevando una caja con objetos, acompañada de su perro, le decían la purpurina por la cantidad de polvos que usaba para maquillarse, regularmente en sus recorridos caminaba por el centro de la ciudad y nunca le faltaba su preciada caja con diversos objetos y el acompañante fiel, un perro el cual la seguía a cada lugar que se dirigía, en honor a este pintoresco y singular personaje se nombró la recién inaugurada calle, ubicada entre la calle Sucre (Casco histórico) y la avenida Aristiguieta, que pasa por la parte trasera del parque Guaiquerí, esta avenida es la que conduce a Cumanacoa, capital del municipio Montes.
El callejón está decorado en la parte superior, con paraguas de diversos colores, estos tienen a su vez bombillos y luces navideñas, en horas nocturnas la vista es increíble, el día de mi visita había una gran cantidad de personas haciéndose fotografías y filmando vídeos con sus hermosos murales de fondo, tuve que esperar más de una hora para poder ingresar, tomar las fotografía y hacer un corto vídeo, las paredes están decoradas con fachadas de las casas coloniales, en ellas se observan ventanas con rejas, muchas flores y las puertas que generalmente eran de madera, decoradas con cuadrados, tallados, también las casas se caracterizaban por tener plantas florales en la parte superior de las paredes, las cuales están separadas por líneas de color negro o marrón, que delimitan las casas representadas en los murales.
Upon entering from Sucre Street, on the left, you'll find a statue of La Purpurina sitting on the sidewalk. Next to her is a box with her belongings and the little dog that accompanied her on her adventures. Further along, you'll see flowers, a beautiful Araguaney tree, and a large mural bearing the name "Callejón la Purpurina" (La Purpurina Alley). Beyond that is a facade adorned with many flowers, followed by sunflowers, and then other flowers in shades of blue, violet, and red. At the other end, on Aristiguieta Avenue, there's a mural with the alley's name, decorated with bricks. From this vantage point, you have a view of the avenue and the back of Guaiquerí Park.
To the right of the alley, you'll again find facades, windows decorated with flowers, similar to the previous wall, and various lines separating the houses. According to information from a resident of this area, the murals recreate the houses of old Cumaná. On this side, you can also see a series of columns, decorated with many flowers, and at the end of the alley, on the border with Sucre Street, there is a small church and the name of the artist who made these murals.
Al ingresar por la calle Sucre, hacia el lado izquierdo, se ubica la imagen de la purpurina que está sentada en una acera, al lado de ella una caja con sus objetos y el perrito que la acompañaba en sus aventuras y travesías, luego se observan unas flores, un hermoso Araguaney y un gran mural, que es donde se lee el nombre “Callejón la Purpurina”, luego una fachada con muchas flores, a continuación los girasoles, seguidamente otras flores de color azul, violeta y rojo, al llegar al otro extremo por la avenida Aristiguieta, hay un mural con el nombre del callejón, decorado con ladrillos y desde ese punto tenemos una vista de la avenida y la parte posterior del parque Guaiquerí.
Hacia el lado derecho del callejón, encontramos nuevamente fachadas, ventanas decoradas con flores, al igual, que en la pared anterior y diversas líneas que separan las casas; según información de una residente de esta zona, los murales recrean las casas de la Cumaná antigua, en este lado se aprecian también una serie de columnas, decoradas con muchas flores y al final del callejón, en el límite con la calle Sucre se ubica una pequeña iglesia y el nombre del artista que hizo estos murales.
The floor is made of red clay tiles, and the alley is quite narrow. I took the photos with my phone, and it's a bit difficult to frame the angle since the distance between the walls is less than two meters. Without a professional camera, it's a little difficult to get a full shot of each mural because of the short distance. Besides the umbrellas above, the color of the floor contrasts beautifully with the murals on both sides, which depict doors, windows, facades, tile roofs, and many flowers that were common in the old houses and windows used to decorate and beautify their facades.
The windows are characterized by having a kind of rectangular planter below them, where plants were placed. It was a lovely stroll through this beautiful alley, which was named La Purpurina in honor of a well-known woman from Cumaná who walked the streets daily accompanied by her faithful dog.
El piso es de caico, en color rojo y el callejón es bastante angosto, tomé las fotos con mi teléfono y es un tanto difícil enmarcar el ángulo, ya que la distancia de una pared a otra es de menos de dos metros, y al no tener una cámara profesional, se me dificulta un poco obtener la foto completa de cada uno de los murales, ya que la distancia es corta; además de tener los paraguas en la parte de arriba, el color del piso contrasta muy bien con los murales, ubicados a ambos lados, donde vemos puertas, ventanas, fachadas, techos de teja y muchas flores que eran comunes en las antiguas casonas y las ventanas para adornar y embellecer la fachada de estas casas.
Las ventanas se caracterizan por tener en la parte de abajo, una especie de jardinera rectangular, donde colocaban las plantas, fue un lindo recorrido por este hermoso callejón que fue bautizado como la Purpurina, en honor a esta conocida señora cumanesa que recorría las calles diariamente, acompañada de su fiel perro.

What a beautiful tribute to that woman called Purpurina and what beautiful stories you bring us, besides the fact that in honour of the 510 years of Cumaná this beautiful alley is inaugurated. I love to see the umbrellas of all colours on it and also those murals are like a trip back in time to colonial constructions and decorations with their flowers. The painted doors are like portals in time and I tell you it was worth waiting so long to film that beautiful video and take the pictures.

Saludos @avdesing, el callejón rinde un merecido homenaje a la señora purpurina, reflejando con hermosos murales realistas las casas de la Cumaná antigua, los murales en la parte superior agregan un plus, el pintor hizo un gran trabajo, cada puerta y ventana es una muestra del diseño y estilo que tenían las casas, es como retroceder en el tiempo y caminar por las largas y angostas calles coloniales con grandes casas y lindas fachadas cubiertas de coloridas flores, me encantó visitar el callejón y observar cada mural, es un espacio para conocer parte de la historia de la mediante la pintura, además un gran detalle para conmemorar el cumpleaños 510 de la capital del estado Sucre.

The murals at the top add an extra touch; the painter did a great job. Each door and window is a testament to the design and style of the houses. It's like stepping back in time and walking through the long, narrow colonial streets with grand houses and lovely facades covered in colorful flowers. I loved visiting the alley and admiring each mural.
