Este año tuve la oportunidad de pasar varios días en Choroní, lugar que visitaba por primera vez y a mi parecer es uno de los lugares en Venezuela más encantadores para pasar un agradable día disfrutando del mar y de todo lo que te brinda estar en un pueblo caribeño.
En esos días pude montarme en una lancha y visitar playas cercanas como Tuja, Cepe y Puerto Escondido, pero hoy viajeros les quiero recomendar cinco cosas que pueden hacer estando en el puerto.

This year I had the opportunity to spend several days in Choroní, a place that I visited for the first time and in my opinion is one of the most charming places in Venezuela to spend a nice day enjoying the sea and everything that gives you being in a Caribbean town.
In those days I was able to get on a boat and visit nearby beaches like Tuja, Cepe and Puerto Escondido, but today travelers I want to recommend five things you can do while in the port.
1- Bañarte en Playa Grande / Bathing at Playa Grande

Es más que obvio que sí visitas un pueblo costero buscas darte un baño de agua salada, divertirte en el mar, con la sombra de las palmeras y para eso está Playa Grande. Aquí puedes acceder a la playa directamente en carro o caminando desde el pueblo, dependerá de tu forma de trasladarte Choroní.
It is more than obvious that if you visit a coastal town you are looking for a saltwater bath, have fun in the sea, with the shade of palm trees and for that is Playa Grande. Here you can access the beach directly by car or walking from the village, it will depend on your way of moving Choroní.
Playa Grande
Está playa no es tanto para relajarse, más bien es para divertirse brincando las olas, por eso hay salvavidas cerca que están pendiente de todos. Si te estás hospedando en el pueblo puedes incluso ir a playa Grande sin nada tus pertenencias y solo ir a disfrutar del mar.
This beach is not so much for relaxing as it is for having fun jumping the waves, so there are lifeguards nearby to watch out for everyone. If you are staying in town you can even go to Playa Grande without any of your belongings and just enjoy the ocean.
2- Caminar hasta Tinikijima / Walk to Tinikijima

Una segunda playa que es de fácil acceso en Choroní es Tinikijima. Para llegar hasta allá puedes preguntar en el malecón de Puerto Colombia cuál es la ruta, de seguro encuentras quien te pueda guiar, sin embargo, el camino no es tan complicado y solo son 10 minutos de recorrido.
A second beach that is easily accessible in Choroní is Tinikijima. To get there you can ask at the boardwalk of Puerto Colombia which is the route, surely you will find someone who can guide you, however, the road is not so complicated and it is only 10 minutes away.
El día anterior a las fotos había llovido muy fuerte en la montaña del Parque Nacional Henry Pittier (todas estas playas pertenecen al parque nacional) y cerca de allí desemboca un río, por lo que al llegar, todo estaba cubierto de hojas y palos que estaban limpiando. No me pude bañar, pero estoy segura de que ustedes viajeros pueden tener mejor suerte que la mía. Tinikijima es realmente un paraíso.
The day before the photos were taken, it had rained very hard on the mountain of Henry Pittier National Park (all these beaches belong to the national park) and a river flows nearby, so when I arrived, everything was covered with leaves and sticks that were being cleaned. I couldn't swim, but I'm sure you travelers can have better luck than mine. Tinikijima is truly a paradise.
3- Un chapuzón de agua fría / A dip in cold water

Lugar donde si me bañe bastante y dónde curiosamente solo tengo está fotografía que me tomó una amiga que me acompañaba en el viaje es en el río.
En casi todas las playas a las que puedes acceder desde Choroní vas a encontrar la desembocadura de los ríos que vienen directo de la montaña. Un chapuzón en el rio es la solución perfecta para quitarte el agua salada y relajarse un buen rato. Aunque en la foto se ve muy poco profundo tiene sus zonas donde te puedes sumergir completamente, así que aprovecha el agüita fría de la montaña cuando vayas a Choroní.
En casi todas las playas a las que puedes acceder desde Choroní vas a encontrar la desembocadura de los ríos que vienen directo de la montaña. Un chapuzón en el rio es la solución perfecta para quitarte el agua salada y relajarse un buen rato. A place where I bathed a lot and where curiously I only have this photograph taken by a friend who accompanied me on the trip is in the river.
In almost all the beaches that you can access from Choroní you will find the mouth of the rivers that come directly from the mountain. A dip in the river is the perfect solution to get rid of the salt water and relax for a while. Although in the photo it looks very shallow it has its areas where you can submerge completely, so take advantage of the cold mountain water when you go to Choroní.
4- Paseo en bicicleta / Bicycle tour
Posada Junto Al Mar
Después de habernos bañado en dos playas y en el río estábamos buscando que más hacer en esos días en Choroní y en algún momento vimos unas bicicletas muy lindas, así que después de una breve investigación dimos con la posada Junto al mar.
After swimming in two beaches and in the river we were looking for what else to do in those days in Choroní and at some point we saw some very nice bicycles, so after a brief investigation we found the Posada Junto al Mar.
Ellos por el precio de 10 USD por persona ofrecen un tour por todo Choroní. De esa forma comenzamos a pedalear por todo la carretera hasta llegar a un punto del río con pozos lo suficientemente profundos para darse un buen baño. Después de eso nos metimos por calles más escondidas del pueblo hasta llegar a la entrada de Choroni.
Durante todo el recorrido también el guía va comentado sobre la historia del lugar, por eso viajeros, si quieren conocer un poco más de Choroní más allá de bañarse en sus playas está es una muy buena opción.
For the price of 10 USD per person they offer a tour around Choroní. So we started pedaling all along the road until we reached a point of the river with wells deep enough for a good swim. After that we got into more hidden streets of the town until we reached the entrance of Choroni.
Throughout the tour the guide also commented on the history of the place, so travelers, if you want to know a little more about Choroni beyond bathing in its beaches this is a very good option.

5- Subir al mirador más alto / Climb to the highest viewpoint
Para cerrar el día con broche de oro viendo el atardecer nos fuimos hasta un mirador, pero no el más cercano que es El Cristo. Está vez, junto al mismo guía que nos llevó a pasear en bicicleta, caminamos un poco más allá.
To end the day on a high note watching the sunset, we went to a viewpoint, but not the closest one, which is El Cristo. This time, together with the same guide who took us on the bike ride, we walked a little further.
Mirador El Barco

Vamos a dividir este mirador en tres escalones o puntos. El primero que les comentaba es El Cristo, el más cercano y de fácil acceso. Si seguimos subiendo está vez por sendero de tierra daremos con el segundo escalón del mirador, El barco.
Let's divide this viewpoint into three steps or points. The first one I mentioned is El Cristo, the closest and easily accessible. If we continue climbing this time by dirt path we will find the second step of the viewpoint, El Barco.
Vista a Playa Grande
Vista hacia Puerto Colombia
Y si quieres seguir caminando por el cerro Papelón puedes llegar hasta una cruz desde donde se visualiza toda playa Grande, Puerto Colombia y Choroní. De verdad que si vale la caminata.
And if you want to continue walking along the Papelón hill you can reach a cross from where you can see all of Playa Grande, Puerto Colombia and Choroní. It is really worth the hike.

Y bueno viajeros hasta aquí llega este top de cinco cosas que pueden hacer si van a Choroní y no quieren agarrar una lancha a otra playa. Está es mi recomendación para ustedes porque son actividades que hice mientras estuve unos días por allá, otra cosa que también pueden hacer es apoyar la economía local, aquí pude probar desde cacao, teticas de tizana, comprar souvenirs para llevar a casa, además de mis buenas empanadas de cazón.
And well travelers, so far this top 5 things you can do if you go to Choroní and do not want to take a boat to another beach. This is my recommendation for you because these are activities that I did while I was there for a few days, another thing you can do is to support the local economy, here I could taste from cocoa, tizana ice cream, buy souvenirs to take home, plus my good dogfish empanadas.
