Kaliningrad Zoo (15pics)

Greetings, friends.
Our adventures in Kaliningrad continue.
On the third day of our stay on Prussian soil, we decided to dedicate a trip to the zoo.
The zoo is located in the city center and does not have a car park, but we did not know about it and it caused us inconvenience at the very beginning. That was the only disappointment of visiting the zoo.

The very first pavilion next to the entrance to the Zoo belongs to raccoons.

Some information about the Zoo itself:
Kaliningrad Zoo was founded in 1906. It has the status of a "historical zoo" along with the Moscow and Leningrad zoos.
By 1910, the Koenigsberg Zoo's collection had reached 2,161 specimens. It was the German period, and the Zoo was self-sufficient. This record was broken only in 2004.
The zoo survived two World Wars, and in April 1945, after the fighting on the zoo grounds, only 4 animals remained alive. It can be said that from that moment on, the zoo's life began from scratch, and it became known as the Kaliningrad Zoo.

If I'm not mistaken, it's a sea lion.

An interesting detail. In 2017, my eldest daughter and I went to Finland and there we walked in the national park. At the entrance, we had a choice - to go left or right. We went to the right, as it turned out, against the main course of the people who were coming towards us.
It turned out the same way here - the daughter and son-in-law went to the right, although it was written on the sign that it was better to go to the left to explore the zoo.
My son and his family arrived at this place about an hour earlier than us and they went to the left. We met them only after 6 hours of walking around the zoo.

The brown bear. There were a lot of people standing next to this pavilion, and people were watching the 2 bears with interest. In all Russian fairy tales, a bear is associated with a kind, club-footed bumpkin named Mishka, and that's probably why no one sees danger in these animals.
It was at this pavilion that I turned up again 5 hours later, to meet my son.
There are other bears in the Zoo, but these two were the cutest.
Probably, we also consider macaques and chimpanzees to be the most interesting and cute among other monkeys.

But the bear reminded people that he is a formidable animal, not a kind teddy bear.
By the way, it was funny to watch the bear eat apples.

And here it is in the evening, in 5 hours. He probably got tired of people and moved to the other side of the pavilion, where I saw him. Cute.

There are many birds to be found here. There is a large pavilion under the general name "Poultry yard". There is also a large collection of goats and sheep. For some reason, my granddaughter Alice especially liked them.

The Australian emu ostrich. This is also a bird, but a special pavilion has been made for it.

The mighty Bison. What is he thinking about? About the prairies? I didn't wait for him to get to his feet; instead, he lay on his back.

The Patagonian Mara. The long hind limbs give him the image of a hare. This rodent is the fourth largest among rodents. The largest rodent is the Capybara. We saw him at the Zoo, but the photo turned out to be of poor quality.

A meerkat. What do we know about meerkats? The fact that his name is Timon, and his best friend is the Warthog Pumbaa.

It seems to me that the elephant is one of the main animals in all zoos. When we approached the elephant pavilion, it turned out that he had gone to his warm, enclosed pavilion. He was used to the hot climate, but not to the Russian climate. But the elephant liked the local willow. There was a giraffe in the same pavilion.
2 behemoths are also in the indoor pavilion-pool. It has its own microclimate with the right humidity and temperature.
The big pavilion belongs to the monkeys. They can freely switch from the summer side to the winter side. In the winter half, there are also exhibitions with spiders, fish, and frogs.

Is the zebra white with black stripes or is it black with white stripes? This is an age-old question. But looking at this zebra, I realized that the zebra's ass is neither white nor black. It's striped!

It's always difficult to talk about the zoo. I would like to show and tell about a large number of animals and birds, but this is simply impossible, and the reader will get tired of reading.
The zoo needs to be visited.
Last year, I told my children that I wanted to visit the Moscow Zoo. I won't be able to visit there this summer. Maybe it will work out in a year?
My children liked the Kaliningrad Zoo. I have a mixed opinion. I liked the landscape of the zoo, its old pavilions, which are more than 100 years old. But I still have a little unpleasant feeling from the fact that some pavilions are closed for repairs, and the animals have been moved to other places.
Maybe I should come here one more time? For example, I can do this with my wife or with my youngest daughter.

Nicely run zoo to enjoy open enclosures, good variety to teach children about animal life around the world.
