Visting two Traditional Moroccan Markets in a Single Day

(Edited)

Hello everyone, I hope the week went well for you ! On my side, it has been very busy with work and I could not be very present here... Today, I propose two visits to markets in the north of Morocco. The first one is called the "Monday Market" ^^ and takes place in the countryside, while the second one is in Tangier and groups by district, the craftsmen and notably the spice market.

IMG_6097.JPG

We came from the guest house on a three-wheeler and it reminds me of @stoodkev's adventure in Sri Lanka that you can follow these days ! Like the other episodes I recommend you to go and see to enjoy this stay, the pictures are a bit lacking: at the time I wasn't doing articles here yet ! But I hope you'll enjoy these little glimpses of North African atmosphere :D

IMG_5984.JPG

At the bottom of the hill where the market is located, which winds its way up to the top, there is this gate in a wall that joins the town proper with the surrounding countryside.

IMG_6103.JPG

IMG_6099.JPG

Here, you can find everything...! Tools, stoves, nets for harvesting olives and many, many other things. Here we are in the countryside and I remember that here people don't like to be photographed at all, that's why you will see very few people in these pictures. And generally speaking, some shopkeepers didn't even want me to photograph their stalls, that's how much.

IMG_6101.JPG

IMG_6104.JPG

IMG_6108.jpg

Ropes by the dozen, in all diameters and colors imaginable !

IMG_6122.JPG

Here we are almost at the top of the little village... I prefer to warn you, but if you don't eat meat, you'd better skip the three following pictures !!!

IMG_5862.jpg

It's still okay...

IMG_6110.JPG

IMG_6112.JPG

But not anymore, at least for Westerners who are no longer used to seeing where the animal flesh they eat comes from... I agree that it's a bit trashy, but on the other hand, it's also good not to hide from it and be hypocritical about it all. And as always, I guess it's possible to find a balance between the two !

IMG_6133.JPG

IMG_6124.JPG

Here we are back at the bottom of the hill, where a few hours earlier, the animals were gathered for the market, mainly donkeys, goats and sheep...

IMG_6018.JPG

IMG_6023.JPG

Here above is my only and very modest purchase: a pair of pliers to mark pastries like date cakes :p

IMG_5902.JPG

IMG_5904.JPG

Noon has barely passed when we set off again, this time by car for the city of Tangier, a few dozen kilometers away.

IMG_5909.jpg

IMG_5970.JPG

A bit of atmosphere on the road...

IMG_5993.JPG

IMG_5978.JPG

IMG_5986.JPG

And there, we walk towards the souk in the narrow streets... In my memory, I took even less pictures because I was already quite tired !

IMG_5908.JPG

Another three-wheeler...

IMG_6034.JPG

IMG_6038.JPG

IMG_6031.JPG

IMG_6032.JPG

Even less pictures for the moment, but we were in the craftsmen's district, where metal workers and construction workers mingle.

IMG_5905.JPG

IMG_5907.JPG

We will finish on the spice market where I frankly stopped taking pictures, and for good reason: there was too much to taste with the eyes or the mouth, to breathe and to smell !

However, I hope you enjoyed this last episode of our Moroccan adventures ! Thank you for your visit, your readings and your comments always very appreciated.

Have a great weekend everyone, take good care of you and your beloved ones,

<3

<3

See what I mean! Late! It is an exceptional day for us yes. Let's not make a habit of this.

I am good, but, I do miss traveling. :) But, being home and watching Spring unfold, that right there is just magic!

How about you? And your house?

About the house, it's working good too... We sign the first part, and now, we've two months to wait before the real sale ! We're really impatient as you can imagine hehe !

Great thanks amazing @anttn, beautiful pictures and so many ropes and nets and the soil seems to have gone in some places, love the pictures and the texts and its amazing how clean and tidy it is out of the market place the souk or the bazar (through to French now) et la rutilence des metaux et lustres et cuivres, jusqu'aux epices et machines. :-) Can't blame you to stopping photographing a bit for yourself it is so valuable in these moments. Best+!

Tu as du bien te régaler!

Tu y retourne souvent ?

Tu as du bien te régaler!

I really love how you approach your posts, each and every one tells a story of your personal journey- out there discovering the world, or repeating history to find out more. This was interesting, especially as you went into it without ever knowing that it would become part of a blockchain. The view you gave us as you were driving, gave us a glance at life without looking your best.

The shopping is legendary and you spared no details. Are the three-wheeled vehicles just more economical? I can't see that they are better vehicles in any way, but, I can see them being cheaper to have and run. It goes without saying that I would gladly have gone to that market, perhaps it might be the only place I get to. Only kidding, but, I was amazed at the merchandise! You always bring me the best! Thank you!!! And I am so late. again!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Thanks for your visit dear @dswigle ! The markets in Morocco are really my best memories, they are really a people of passionate traders and very skilled negotiators haha ^^ ! Everything I learned about this is there that I learned it ;-D

Yes, I think three-wheelers are more economical and combine the power of a motorbike with more room to carry things and more stability...!

I hope you're doing well and having the most pleasant weekend 😘 !!

Thank you for the response. Some of my best memories aren't even backed up by pictures, just having the experience is imprinted in my brain.

Negotiations. :) A learned skill.

I am well and it is a wonderful weekend.

Happy Easter to you and yours!
