Heading to the Atlantic Ocean from the Moroccan coastline

avatar

Because of the proximity of the coastline from the guest house, the next morning we set off towards the ocean. If I remember correctly, one team left by car with a little advance and the other one, of which I was a part, left on foot.

The ride was just splendid, long and dry, but so full of discoveries and rewards ! I'll say it again, because at the time I wasn't doing articles here, so there are gaps as I clearly wasn't taking as many pictures !

Here, the earth is ochre red, extremely orange and very compact. We are not yet in the desert, clearly, but it is easy to understand the need for an oasis and the care given to the vegetable garden and to plants in general.

The route follows an almost straight line of small canyons, left over from periods of heavy rainfall. At these times of the year, the oueds, these riverbeds, fill up like real torrents.

We come across a small orchard of fig trees which inevitably announces a small village that we do not yet see. In the distance, we hear the calls of the muezzin, the preacher who calls to prayer and that all those who have travelled in Muslim countries know.

The village itself is completely deserted and this creates a strange atmosphere, even if everything is beautiful and simple in the extreme. Dry brick walls, the little well that looks like an obvious crossroads and this last image with a rustic fence covered with purple Volubilis.

We approach a larger building and walk along the fence for a while. This is the mosque from which we heard the calls of the preacher. We don't risk entering and disrupting the prayer. Even if you will have noticed that the door is partly open...

Little by little, we move away from the centre at the bend of a last metal boundary overhung by fresh green reeds...

We arrive near the ocean which is just behind this last wall of what looks like orange limestone...

Here we go ! What a beautiful perspective. Closer to the shore, some fishermen's huts and apparently some kind of place to go for a drink.

We go straight to the baths because I must admit that we are sweating like crazy ^^ !

After this long, pleasant and necessary swim, we went to eat in one of the huts. I remember that the people were simply charming... Quick little story about this sign that says: "No Smoking".

It so happens that if you look closely, you can see a character on the bottom right of the last photo rolling a joint - this was the period when most of us were still smoking. But don't worry, we went outside in order to respect the rule a little bit ^^ !

That's it for today! I hope you enjoyed this article and its potential to share atmosphere even if I would have liked to take more pictures at the time :)

Thanks for visiting and reading, I wish you a very nice day !

Thanks @steemflow ! Btw I seize the occasion to ask you because I recently delegated to the community, is the curation reward only in IUC tokens ? Because it seems I didn’t receive anything yet :)

This is such a beautiful and captivating story! Your description of the journey towards the ocean, with the ochre red earth and small canyons left over from heavy rainfall, makes me feel as though I'm right there with you. The image of the deserted village, with its dry brick walls and rustic fence covered with purple Volubilis, creates a mysterious and intriguing atmosphere. And your account of the swim in the ocean, followed by a meal in one of the fishermen's huts, makes me wish I could have been there to experience it myself. I appreciate the little anecdote about the "No Smoking" sign and the character rolling a joint - it adds a touch of humor and humanity to the story. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, even if you wish you had taken more pictures at the time.
