An Insight into some of Lyon's Famous and Personal Places, as seen over the course of several Days
Even though I didn't have as much time as I would have liked in Lyon, I still had enough to go for a few walks, especially when I went to buy tools or materials for the work, usually in the morning, when the light is at its best !
So I was able to catch some of the lights that reminded me of my teenage years spent in this town and it's amazing to think that, even when you don't live in a familiar place, you quickly pick up on the habits and customs you had back then. The force of habit is probably one of the most powerful that exists in us and in many animals too !
But without further ado, let's get started...
Here we are at one of the city's two main railway stations, which is also home to the business centre and an anthill-like shopping centre that we won't be visiting today !
I don't think I particularly like these glass and metal towers, nor do I want to be on top of them, but I console myself by taking photos of them, as they always make great architectural subjects.
Here we are in a little park where I spent hours when I was younger. This one is on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse hill and is a little niche of nature and peace between the buildings and the hustle and bustle of the city.
And these are some of the streets that take me from this square to the quayside where my family lives. Streets and alleyways that run the length of the city and are always colored with the city's hues, yellows and all kinds of ochre variations.
Here, the two premises of a technical and artistic high school where I almost went, but in the end it was in Paris that I continued my studies... It's quite funny, because I've only been in this place once and it almost felt like I'd actually studied there !
In the second image, you won't have missed the cables stretched across the sky, which are not for telephones but for buses that run on electricity, a bit like trams...
This is the Opéra de Lyon and the open square around it. There are a few works of art scattered around, but as you may have realized, it was almost 43°C in full sun and I couldn't stay in full sun for very long !
Here, though, is 'L'Homme de la Liberté', a sculpture by the artist César, who also created the 'Centaur' I told you about last time.
Here we are on the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, and I know that you can visit certain parts of the monument, but even in my many years in Lyon, I've never been able to do so !
The fountain on the Place des Terreaux was created by the sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and inaugurated in 1892. Its original title ? "The rivers and springs flowing to the ocean", and I think this is reflected in the free and spirited nature of the galloping horses...
Here we are just a little further down the river Saône, just in time to capture the series of bridges upstream and this beautiful barge loaded with an impressive amount of wood !
This is the light of the mornings when the streets are almost empty and the colors are so bright. Honestly, if I hadn't had to work, I think I'd have just sat in a café with a good book !
Not far from there on the quay is another fresco, this time depicting books, and I have to confess that I haven't delved into the 'whys and wherefores' of this creation... But I've seen this one since I was a child, and it's a pleasant, visual memory that's enough for me even without knowing any more about it !
A few more views of the quays on another morning...
And we'll finish with these three different views over several days of the Fourvière hill, its basilica and its Eiffel Tower. As you can see, it's quite a wooded and green area and if you're ever in Lyon, be sure to take a walk up there, as it's the best view of the city !
I hope you've enjoyed your visit with me, and I'd like to thank you for your time. Take good care and see you soon,

Lyon's architecture looks quite impressive and striking. The historical buildings and Gothic style cathedrals create a fascinating architectural ambiance. Especially the narrow streets and colorful houses in the old town reflect Lyon's characteristic architecture.
However, with the addition of some modern structures, there are certain architectural styles that don't harmonize with the city's historical essence. In my opinion, this creates a contrast against the traditional fabric of the city

Wonderful city through your photos. I wish i can visit Eiffel onece time. 😍
I'm not even there, yet I can practically feel the rays of the blistering sun on me. I wonder how you were able to stay there for that long. But I guess the great pictures are worth it. Some of them look like they're straight out of a magazine.
Really awesome shots @anttn✨
Looks great, man. First time I've posh'd this post after a long time! It was worth it. Thanks for sharing with us the Saone river and so many wonderful buildings.
Thanks, best+
Absolutely! Lyon has that magical charm that brings back fond memories and familiar habits. Even with limited time, those walks and encounters with the city's lights can transport you back to cherished moments from your teenage years. The force of habit is indeed a powerful phenomenon, connecting us to the places we once called home. Embracing those nostalgic feelings makes every visit to Lyon truly special. Keep relishing those delightful moments!
You said it all @hotspotitaly ! This is always a pleasure to have the occasion to rely on those memories and I must tell most of our holidays are almost always spent in the same places :)
Thank you very much and sorry btw to show up that late ! Take good care ✌️
Oh my God!!!
Lyon has so many tall buildings. I've never been to Dubai but I thought it was only Dubai that has so many tall buildings not until I saw this...
This is extremely amazing
Nice pictures!!!
In fact, those ones are probably less than a quarter of the highest you can find in Dubai... but it's already enough for me haha !
Thank you for visiting @rafzat 😉
t's fascinating to explore the city's main railway station and witness the modern glass and metal towers that adorn the skyline. While you may not feel inclined to venture to the top of these towering structures, capturing them through photography allows you to appreciate their architectural beauty. Your keen eye for architectural subjects enables others to see these buildings in a new light.
I like you are not one who would want to live in a high rise building but enjoy taking photos of them
I must prefer the cool streets and architecture you shared later so charming
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Definitely, I'm more a country guy who had to live in the city ! But just for the view, this is okay !
Thank you dear @tattoodjay, I wish you a pleasant weekend ahead 😊

When we are going to visit that shopping mall?.
Haha, maybe later... who knows ?
Okay I am waiting. Hehehe, should I set an alarm ?
Great you could squeeze in some walks while there.
Beautiful walk. Love the fresco of the books 📚 very cool.
Thanks for sharing.
Happy evening 😘
Indeed, that was some appreciated breaks !
Ha, I just thought of you in front of this one hehe 😉
I hope you're both doing well, may you have a lovely weekend,
Hi form the countryside 😘
Yes, breaks are needed.
That’s nice, thank you 😉
Thank you so much, we are well and going over exciting plans… it’s raining still so long walks are not done. But we went out for a short loop. Got some rain here and there but all fine. The forest 🌳 showed us hundreds of mushrooms… so I was happy.
Hi from the countryside too 👋🏻 😘 enjoy your weekend!

I wish you a lovely weekend !
This city is very beautiful, on my visit to Paris I didn't get to visit any other cities as it is quite far away, I think over 400 kilometers.
Yeah, it's about that... but if you're in the area, it definitely worth the tour ;)
Thank you dear @triplug, I hope you're doing fine 😊
You're welcome!
Have a wonderful Sunday.
You got some nice shots on your walks there.
I liked that little park and the ones with the rivers. most, but the others were interesting too.
As for the electric buses: in Salzburg they are called "O-Bus". Rhe O being a shortcut for "Oberleitung" which is what we call the overhead power supply lines in German.
Have a lovely day and take care!
Thank you @aaskablackwolf 😉
I'm quite late here and as I'm leaving toward more nature, I know I'll have more wild articles for you :D
I hope you're doing good !
Glad to hear that @anttn ! Looking forward to some more stuff to read from you! 😍
I'm doing well, thanks! Just still busy with business... 😆 And waiting to get my hands on my new (electric) car later today so I can get rid of the eleven and a half year old diesel engine. 🤩
I hope everything fine for you as well?!
You're most welcome @aaskablackwolf :)
Oh, interesting ! May I ask you the model you choose ?
I'm doing great too, the holidays just started, how can one complain ^^
You may ask any question. Not promising answers though... 😉
And it's a Tesla Model Y, 1,5 years old, 50.000km
Hehe, of course ! I'm generally curious 😅
All right, it will give me the occasion to look a bit into that model :)
Have a lovely Sunday dear ✌️
