Hello, friends at worldmappin. I hope you are enjoying your travels and sharing them with the world!

In this post, I would like to show you a visit I made to the "Chorros de Milla" Zoo located in Mérida, Venezuela, which is home to several native species of animals and trees from the Andean region and Venezuela. This zoo has been open to the public since 1952. In addition to finding animals and plants in preservation, we also found a beautiful waterfall, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the zoo, as well as artificial lagoons, stairways, hiking trails, picnic areas, and food outlets. We really had a great time.

My friend Estefany and her children Mía and Frank accompanied me on the visit. They had never been to the zoo before and were super excited, asking questions about everything. Although the children were excited, I find zoos a little sad. Locking up animals for human entertainment is something I didn't think about before, but now I think more about the animals in captivity and it breaks my heart. Who would want to live like that? Well, the truth is that there are many things that humanity should change, and one of them is zoos! Although this zoo is surrounded by 10 hectares of pure nature, I think that it is still not the same for them. However, I also think that there are some places that preserve endangered animals, and that is a good thing! This zoo is one of them. They are involved in several conservation programs for various species, such as the Frontino bear, condor, capybara, among others.

The Frontino bear is an endangered species, with a distribution range stretching from the Andes mountain range through Venezuela and across Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. It is a wonderful achievement that Los Chorros de Milla Zoo is involved in programs for its preservation.

The legend of the "Tibisay" waterfall inside the zoo...

The Milla River runs through this zoo with many waterfalls, the largest and most popular being the " Tibisay." Legend has it that a cacique (indigenous tribal chief) fought to the death defending his tribe from the Spanish, and that the tears of his beloved (Tibisay) formed the waters of the Milla River, which now flows through the zoo grounds. It is a tragic and romantic legend, like many here in my region of Venezuela, which tell of warrior women and loving women, just as we Venezuelan women are today!

This waterfall is truly majestic. You can feel a clean energy and a sense of peace when you are here. The water is cold, but not so cold that you freeze, although I didn't see anyone swimming that day.

It's a really fun place for children; they learn about nature, animals, and how to help with conservation. We should also teach children that the zoo isn't the best place for animals because they miss their habitat and herd.

It was so much fun! For the kids, and for me, it was a very relaxing place surrounded by nature. Being there felt like truly experiencing real natural life. I hope people can see this post and see how beautiful this zoo is, and visit it someday. It deserves to be enjoyed.
