Let's go for a walk: Parque Eduardo VII in Lisbon (Portugal)
Happy Friday to all of you guys. Hope you all are having a great day. Weekend is coming. Let's celebrate it.
Today I present you my sunday walk in Parque Eduardo VII in Lisbon. All Photos were taken with my Huawei P30. Date: November 20th, 2022.
The Adress is:
Parque Eduardo VII, 1070-051 Lisboa
About this Park
Yeah, I like to give some infos too. I think its nice to have a bit historical knowledge of the areas we are walking around, don't you think?
I started my walk close to the subway station rato. Rato means rat, simple and easy 😅😂.
First we will see some #streetphotography and #stickerart around here before we walk i to the #park.
Here the first stickers I found on my way.
And some more #stickers but now enough of this, lets take a look of the Portuguese #architecture in #lisboa.
In lisbon you will find nice old architecture side by side of modern one.
I like to walk just randomly through this city. There is always something to discover and see.
No we are at Marquês do Pompal as you can see at this big statue which is a symbol for that area.
They are preparing the xmas area here too.
Edward VII Park is designed to the #English style of the old times and is the largest park directly in the center of #Lisbon, next to the Marquês de Pompal. It is located in São Sebastião da Pedreira, now the municipality of New Avenues.
In 1903, this park was christened in honor of Edward VII of the United Kingdom, who in turn visited Lisbon once in 1902.
Finally we entered the park area.
Back to the #history, Edward VII of the United Kingdom was in the Portuguese capital to strengthen the #alliance between #England and #Portugal. Until then, the park was called Parque da Liberdade. Personally, I find the old name a bit nicer, but no matter.
On the side to the east is the so called Carlos Lopes #Pavilion. Also a really historical #building. I won't write sooo much about it know, maybe it is too boring for you. But if you are interested to read more about it, here is a source for this Pavillion:
https://informacoeseservicos.lisboa.pt/contactos/diretorio-da-cidade/pavilhao-carlos-lopes
This is how the Pavillion looks from the outside.
Parque Eduardo VII was built in the first half of the 20th century.
But not for the first time, the previous Parque da Liberdade was destroyed in the 18th century. I think that was the story, if I was paying attention.
But lets walk more around through a natural heart in lisbon. I love to see all that old trees.
This is really a beautiful statue to me. Love the style. Another one is directly behind at the restaurant area.
See, you don't need to go always in a #museum here. We have a lot of great and amazing #statues standing around.
The area of this collosal park is over 25 hectares. At the top of the park, and in a good visible place of the city, of course hangs a large flag of Portugal. Why do I mention this?
This flag also has something #historical, because it was proposed to the then President Jorge Sampaio in 2003 by an 8 year old boy named Tomás Carvalho out of curiosity. So they say and I thought it was great to mention, because not many presidents listen to 8 year olds, right?
The grassy median is bordered by long Portuguese walkways that divide the park into two green, wooded areas. To walk around here has a bit the vibes of walking in a little #forest.
One corner of the park, on the site of an old basalt quarry, is the so-called Cold Greenhouse, with a variety of flora and fauna.
Near this greenhouse is a lake with large fishes. There is also a large playground. But I did not go there this time. At least I wanted to mention it, so you guys are informed about that.
At the top north there is a monumental viewpoint where the #monument for April 25, can be seen and where 2 #obelisks are erected.
Of course, you have here some #snackbars and #restaurants. Also some #sculptures and other stuff. Feel free to #discover the whole area by your own. Welcome to great lisbon my friends. Hope to see you all one day around here.
Hope you guys liked my #Wednesdaywalk today.
