Where did all the hippies go?
I used to see them on Granville street
Lining up or sitting down on backpacks and belongings on their way to knowhere.
The sun baking down with pipes and smoke
With the sound of bongo drums
To invoke salmon reveries.
Where did all the hippies go?
After turning the wheel of karma
In fish-eyed I-chings
With yarrow stalks
Littering the sidwalk
With mysterious notebooks
Scribbling lonesome poems
Then laughing at the absurdity of it all.
Where did all the hippies go?
With stars and flowers on their hair
A constellation full of dreams
Down that undulating pine road
That led onwards to the western shore
Where the lighthouse
Guided them to the coral that lies beneath the waves.

A very Pied Piper sort of poem. I wonder if the lighthouse refers to a specific place or a is a reference to a song lyric or something, or if it’s just an image that you decided to use.
You're very astute! The musical reference is on the last line and it's to the Beatle's Octopus's Garden song
That’s a song I hadn’t heard in a while. I didn’t remember the lyric about the coral, so I had to revisit. It’s interesting where inspiration can come from, isn’t it.
It is such a fun song that sounds like a jingle and perfect for their generation. Music has often inspired me to write stories because the images just appear in my mind with the sound and rhythm.
Sounds like true travellers and wanderers.
Absolutely, some of them used to live a nomadic lifestyle. Perhaps they still do.

That's a great folksy song. It kind of reminds me of the early Moody Blues. Right on ✌️
Dude! Peace out :D
Where did the Beatles go? Where did Mick & The Rolling Stones go? What a vivid picture of those flower-power times 😊 Well, in a decade or so the poem might go smth along the lines of "Where did all the snowflakes go?" 😉
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind. 😄
🤣🤣🤣 Love it!
I like the poem, I would have loved to live in that time of hippies and how they lived like that, the music of that time is also very cool, I love it thanks for sharing ♥
Thank you very much, @joseitosanchezs. Those were very interesting times in the 60s, and I wish I had been there too. We still have people today who live a "hippie" or alternative lifestyle, and they're scattered throughout the province. There used to be many of them in the city when I first came here, but I don't see them as often as before.
