Frank and cordial greetings, dear poets of the @ in my recent stay in the city of Naguanagua, Carabobo state, Venezuela, I find myself enjoying this Sunday, January 22nd in the wonderful Black Hippolyta park; I am heading to the place where the meditation group Tertulias in the Park meets. I look with my recreated gaze for the picures, on the bank of the riverbed there are no babillas in the Cabriales river. On a tree are some birds with black plumage and a half-rounded beak. I look closer, they are a community of cotuas.

Scientifically, they are classified as the crow duck, cotua, biguá or yuyo duck (Phalacrocorax olivaseis). What are they doing here, so far from the lagoons and the big rivers, I thought to myself. There is no good fishing here in this river. The Cabriales River is polluted, the water is abundant, with a noisy and strong current, a yellowish foam with an unpleasant odor that covers the entire river bank.

Before this mirror of the landscape arose this haiku that I offer for the bliss of humanity

The cotuas
Look at the long branch,
The river cries.

Thanks for the detail about the birds & the locale. It helps explain your haiku, which for me captures the picture and your description very well
