Hello macro-lovers team!... I don't remember saying it in any of my posts before, but as part of the "cocktail" of manias I have, one is that of being obsessive compulsive (don't worry, I'm far away from you and after decades of yoga I've controlled many things) he he he he :)...

So after a couple of days with the idea of doing macro photography in my head and using the grounds of my backyards for that, today I went out very early for a walk (and believe me, this damned tropical weather makes me go out for a walk frankly desperate and attentive, because at any moment it can rain brutally).... And I took with me my camera with my macro lens.... I think I spent the night dreaming of taking pictures of tiny things... I think it was the only way I could have done it!

Así que después de un par de días con la idea de hacer macro fotografías en mi cabeza y usando los predios de mis patios para eso, hoy salí muy temprano a caminar (y créanme, este condenado clima tropical hace que yo salga a caminar francamente desesperado y atento, pues en cualquier momento puede llover a brutalmente)... Y llevé conmigo mi cámara con mi lente macro... ¡No podía de otra manera!... ¡Creo que pasé la noche soñando con hacer fotos de cosas diminutas!.

The problem is that since it's my usual morning walk for exercise, what I usually take are street photos or at the most landscapes.... But for that I can also manage with the 100mm of fixed focal length of this Tokina lens... So I just started wandering around and headed south, towards the roads that lead to the fields beyond the town centre.

El problema es que tratándose de mi habitual caminata mañanera para ejercitarme, lo que suelo hacer son fotos de calle o a lo sumo de paisajes... Pero para eso también me las puedo ingeniar con los 100mm de focal fija de este lente Tokina... Así que solo comencé a deambular y puse rumbo al Sur, hacia los caminos que van a los sembradíos más allá del casco urbano del pueblo.

Arriving almost at the last street, I ran into an old high school classmate who was going to fetch water from one of the community taps (yes, here in third world villages, not everyone has drinking water in their pipes, they have to go to improvised, very rudimentary fountains)...

Llegando casi a la ultima calle. me topé con un antiguo compañero de secundaria que iba a buscar agua a una de las tomas comunitarias (sí, aquí en los pueblos del tercer mundo, no todos tienen agua potable en sus tuberías, sino que tienen que ir a improvisadas fuentes muy rudimentarias)...

And this old friend, upon seeing me with my camera, told me that beyond one of the dirt roads that turn off to the east from the asphalt road, there is a huge pasture which at dawn shows charming spider webs full of dew... What a wonderful thing, just what I needed!... ;-)

Y este antiguo amigo, al verme con mi cámara, me dijo que allende uno de los caminos de tierra que se desvían hacia al Este partiendo de la vía asfaltada, existe un enorme pastizal el cual durante el amanecer luce encantadoras telas de araña llenas de rocío... ¡Vaya una cosa maravillosa, justo lo que necesitaba!... ;-)

That's how I found this lovely place where the mist rises slowly while the sun evaporates it and allows the spider webs (and other things) to look adorned with lovely dewdrops... The rest is a story told through these photos.

Así fue como encontré este encantador lugar en donde la niebla asciende lentamente mientras el sol la evapora y permite que las telarañas (otras cosas más) luzcan adornadas con encantadoras gotas de rocío... El resto es una historia que se cuenta a través de estas fotos.

I have to admit that the light condition was ideal, as the sun was piercing through a faint mist and there was still dew and pollen floating in the air.... A beautiful thing to see and excellent for using low ISO's and wide apertures to absorb light and try manual focus.

Tengo que reconocer que la condición lumínica era ideal, pues el sol traspasaba una niebla tenue y había aún rocío y polen flotando en el aire... Algo hermoso de ver y excelente para usar ISO's Bajos y aperturas amplias para absorber luz y probar con el enfoque manual.

And so I did... I decided to manage with apertures of f/7.1 ISOs that went as low as 160... I used the full shot evaluation mode and all the shots were taken in RAW... Shutter speed was not a problem, as with such favourable conditions it always stayed above 1/320s using the semi-automatic mode (A) and as I said I did everything focusing manually!... Well, I want to recover my old "skill and craft" to make macros...

Y eso hice... Decidí manejarme con aperturas de f/7.1 ISOs que llegaron a ser inclusive de apenas 160... Use el modo evaluación de plano completo y todas las capturas las hice en RAW... La velocidad de obturación no fue un problema, pues con condiciones tan favorables se mantuvo siempre por encima de 1/320s usando el modo semi-automático (A) y como ya lo dije ¡Hice todo enfocando manualmente!... Pues quiero recuperar mi antigua "maña y oficio" para hacer macros...

It's as easy as this:

1) Graduate the viewfinder to the diopter for my relatively worn out vision (+1.5).

2) Find something tiny to photograph and set the lens to manual focus.

3) Aim, hold your breath, zoom the lens as desired and watch the viewfinder to see what is in focus.

4) To make the decision to shoot using F/7.1 without a damned tripod and sometimes crouched or crooked grotesquely on my own axis, it is necessary to rock minimally back and forth and match the focus to the button press.

5) Ready to... CLICK!

La cosa es tan fácil como esto:

1) Graduar el visor a las dioptrias correctas para mi relativamente desgastada visión (+1.5)

2) Buscar algo diminuto para fotografiar y poner el lente enfoque manual.

3) Apuntar, aguantar la respiración, acercar el lente según se desee y observar visor como se ve lo enfocado.

4) Para tomar la decisión de disparar usando F/7.1 sin un condenado trípode y algunas veces agachado o torcido grotescamente sobre mi propio eje, es necesario balancearse minimamente hacia atrás y adelante y hacer coincidir el enfoque con la pulsación del botón.

5) Listo para... ¡CLICK!

Today, with this rudimentary and spartan technique, I have obtained one relatively good image for every five bad ones... I think that's a good average and I really enjoyed myself immersed in that grassland taking pictures while the mist evaporated due to the sunlight that was advancing without contemplation.

Hoy, con esta rudimentaria y espartana técnica, he obtenido una imagen relativamente buena por cada cinco malas... Me parece un buen promedio y he disfrutado mucho sumergido en ese pastizal haciendo fotos mientras la niebla se evaporaba debido a la luz solar que avanzaba sin contemplación.

LITTLE TECHNICAL NOTE : All images were made with my old Nikon D7000 and my Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO lens... All made in RAW format and processed with Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments of white temperatures, highlights, contrasts and noise reductions if needed. Final adjustments such as cropping, straightening and placement of watermark and data were done in PhotoScape 3.6.1 on the resulting JPGs.

PEQUEÑA NOTA TÉCNICA : Todas las imágenes fueron realizadas con mi vieja compañera Nikon D7000 y mi lente Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO... Todas hechas en formato RAW y procesadas con Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes de temperaturas de blancos, luces, contrastes y reducciones de ruido en caso de ser necesarias. Los ajustes finales como recortes, enderezado y colocación de marca de agua y datos fueron realizados en PhotoScape 3.6.1 sobre los JPG resultantes.
