SNOWPOCALYPSE and some knitting updates

Hello from the snow! We are in some kind of weird cycle right now where we are having a weekly snowstorm that starts Sunday night and goes into Monday. I have had already three appointments cancelled due to the roads being dangerous and unfortunately I have a doctors appointment on Monday and guess what? They are calling for another big snow on Sunday, booo.

Thankfully our neighbour has a plowing business so he clears out our massive driveway (we would never be able to do it all manually) but just clearing our front steps, truck and back patio so we can go to the shed and get wood is a lot of work! Every time there's a storm I go into mega prep mode because our power grid is stupid fragile. I clean the whole house, charge the devices, make sure we have food we can eat cold if needed, stock more wood for the stove etc.

Despite having winter tires the roads around here are very curvy and hilly and have basically zero shoulder and a big ditch on either side of the road. Driving when there could be ice is my nightmare, especially when I've seen a few cars off the road...
Here you can see the heavy snow and wind has taken down some poles and netting around our garden, it happens pretty much every year and is a PITA to fix it all in spring...

Knitting update
I have been able to keep to my schedule of working on this sweater for about a half an hour per day. It will consist of a front and back panel, two sleeves then some ribbing around the neck
I have completed one panel and am about halfway through the second so getting there! For this second panel I have decided to knit a selvedge edge so it stops curling so much and it looks so much neater. Since the edges will be seamed it won't make too much difference to the final product but I think it will be a bit easier to sew.

This will be the general road map, I will make the sleeves flat and seam them to the body then fold it over and seam down the sleeve and body. I am contemplating adding some front pockets but that's undecided at the moment:

I am not following a published patter, rather making my own.
I am calling this the bog sweater atm due to the color, here are my maths that I will preserve here incase I lose this paper and will need to come back to it at a later time. The only tricky part to calculate was the neck decreases for front vs back.

I didn't really know where to put this mish mash of a post so it's going in my Alien Art Hive home :)

I love this post! Thanks for sharing your sweater design. I think it's going to be so cozy..perfect for the snow. LOL
Not sure it will be done before the snow 😂 maybe will be nice for the early spring chills
It's hard to live in a place with so much snow and with those temperatures, but you have a neighbour who helps a lot, that's great. I love the pictures! And you are very forward thinking. As for the knitting I'm sure it will look fabulous!!!! It looks warm and it will suit you super well!
They just dropped the special weather announcement, like 30 cm on top of what we already have 😭😭😭
God! How cold and how much snow!😥
Hi Julia,
The snow looks lovely but it can certainly turn into quite a tiring problem… so do you pay your neighbour for that service, or does he do it for free just because you’re neighbours and all?
A little bit each day and by the end of the week there’ll be a big step forward… ooops, it’s already the end of the week. Well, I wish you a great weekend. I like the colour of the sweater.
We pay them but I think it's a pretty fair deal for the price! After this storm supposedky the weather will be a little warmer for a bit so I am looking forward to that 🥶 good weekend to you too, hope you are well ❤️
Thanks, I’m doing alright. They’ve said it’ll be cold, but I guess there won’t be any snow.
A light dusting of snow can send this city into absolute chaos. We wouldn't survive those conditions that you're experiencing. I do remember similar experiences in Hamilton. It sure makes you appreciate a good roaring winter fire. May warmer days arrive soon. ☀️
Yes the fire is the best, we use the woodstove as our primary source of heat and it goes non stop from about October until April lol!
