Another Day For Livlihood - Overloaded!

We might have seen multiple people riding over a motor cycle. But we hardly ever assume the maximum quantity that a motor cycle can afford to load. As per standard capacity measures, a 100 CC motor bike can carry a weight of 150 KG to 200 kg. That includes a rider, a pillion and other stuffs. A higher weight means uncomfortable riding experince and putting too much pressure on engine. This is like putting our life at risk. But looking at these picture, I can say that a bike can load much more than these standard limit.

1, 2, 3, 4,....20 sack of coal which combined weighs upto 500 Kg and that too on a 100 CC old bike. Exceptionally, too good for breaking up the barrier set up by these motor bike manufacturing unit. This is a part of incredible india, where people cross all the limits just to earn their livlihood. Thats true these bikes were not part of any official transportation of coal. They were hanging out in front of my home early in the morning just for resting their back and relaxing their body.

They have been doing all these to get few hundered of amount. They are living a tough life that starts at late hours of night. Actually they are carrying these loads to sell them in black. My state is very rich in many mineral units as well these coal mines.

These bikers travel almost 200 km everyday to get these sacks of coal and sell them locally. They are selling them at a cheaper rate as compaired to those avaiable in market. So to earn few buck, they risk their life. And start their journey as early as 1AM. After getting their coal stuffs and tying up well over their two wheeler they return to their places / home by 10AM. In between they stop to take rest by resting their bikes at one such boundary walls.

If you look at the first image, you might notice that there is hardly any sitting space left for the rider, still they manage to ride the bikes over loaded. If you count the sacks, it comes down 20. 5 each on either side and 10 on the back / pillion seat. Another noticeable thing is the condition of these bikes. They were repaired multiple times and also modified to carry so many loads.

The return for risking their life is only Rs.500 that includes the fuel cost of traveling as well as some miscelleneous cost. Apart than night out in cold. However, this is how they have been living all these years. I did asked one of them, of their routine and he replied that during day they take rest. So no other income source for these bike fighters.

Not sure if it fits in for @tattoodjay #Wednesdaywalk but this is how I noticed a little lifestyle that exists somewhere in dark by-lanes of India.
