Create your own Paradise - Wednesday Walk / Wander

Hail to the Hive!

For the last few months I have been a guest of @millycf1976 ’s folks in what is a beautiful part of the Island of Jamaica 🇯🇲. I’ve posted a fair few posts of drone shots of the area to showcase its outstanding beauty. But right outside the back door is a little slice of paradise.

Milly’s Mum, who she still refers to as Mummy as is the Jamaican way, is solely responsible for the wonderful back garden. She works very hard at it and from what I have observed works on it daily from very early in the morning at times. As she puts it “ I know how to manage yard” and that she does.

Blessed with lush vegetation as a starting point she has carefully and creatively crafted it to reflect what I think is her personality. She is quirky, bright, bubbly and as she once described herself ‘ quite unique’ which is the understatement of the century. It’s safe to say I quite like my mother in law, she makes me smile and she really is a wonderful person. Hardworking and creative, traits my wife has clearly inherited.

I love the way she has used and painted tyres as planters and positioned them around the property to good effect as it is a form of control and craft but she hasn’t done it in a way that’s uniform so you feel you are half in pure nature and half in a park of some sort.

Not content with the tyre planters she has also landscaped parts of the yard on a larger scale and this would not have been light work. But hard graft isn’t something Alpha would shy away from once her mind is set to task , also like someone else I know 😉.

I do enjoy wandering around gazing up at the coconuts high in the tree. I did read somewhere once that more people are killed by these every year than by landmines though so I probably shouldn’t linger long staring up at the potential coconut death bombs.

The yard is plenty big enough to spend a good amount of time wandering about. I observed many types of fruit trees, guava and mango as well as the coconuts in abundance,a veritable paradise. There were others I couldn’t identify. Must ask Milly.

I like the very end of the yard as I almost feel like I am on a jungle pathway down here. Just me and the sound of many birds. Nice and peaceful. Me and Nature. Amazing when I think this was Milly’s back garden as a child.

I spent a good hour mooching about the garden admiring Alphas handywork taking photos and at one point holding a conversation from two gardens away with one of the friendly neighbours.

I’m not sure if this qualifies as a Wednesday Walk but definitely a Wednesday Wander About.

It really is an incredibly beautiful back garden and one my mother in law takes great pride in and works hard on. She certainly has done a wonderful job as it’s a big yard for one person to look after so she should be applauded for it. I doubt I’d be able to do it so I can appreciate the work that has gone into the creation and maintenance of it all.

I hope you’ve enjoyed coming ao this little Wednesday Wander with me today.

Indeed Jamica is so beutiful, when I was younger once went to Kingston as a tourist, remember visiting 8 Rios and other places, there is nothing like living in an island, been isolated from the city, the air is different, there is no comparison, nice pics 🤙

Great shots.
I am planning to buy myself a drone after the next bull market. I started to love drone pics and footages.

Theres some great affordable options out there. Dji mini 2 or mini 3 are pretty damned good. Shame you’re not in the UK as I am selling my DJi Mavic when I get back and i would have accepted hive for it

If the yard is big enough, I would count it as a "walk" 😂.

Thanks for sharing these pictures with us. Makes me feel closer to home now that I'm in a colder climate.
