Havana Port Avenue, a wonderful walk [Eng/Esp]

ENGLISH VERSION

Hello my dear friends, today I'm joining the challenge proposed by @tattoodjay to share my Wednesday stroll with you. This time, I walked along Havana's port avenue, an area of great beauty where we can find different architectural styles, from baroque, colonial, and modern, creating a harmonious whole that we thoroughly enjoyed visiting.

It's been a long time since I walked around here. This place has a huge appeal; it's beautiful and there's always something new to see because it's constantly being restored.

One of our architectural gems that I always admire when I walk by is the Castillo de la Real Fuerza, a colonial fortress of imposing beauty and historical value, being the oldest in Havana.

Very close by, in the center of the avenue, there is a square-shaped structure made of metal and glass that draws a lot of attention: the Havana Sewer Siphon. This siphon is a very important work, considered one of the seven wonders of Cuban civil engineering. Its roof was recently restored with a contemporary design to blend with the beauty of its surroundings.

Another gem we find along this avenue is the Plaza de San Francisco de Asís, home to the Minor Basilica of San Francisco de Asís and the imposing Lonja del Comercio building. This plaza is very beautiful and also has a very rich and ancient history.

The beautiful Hotel Armadores de Santander has an interesting history. Its name comes from the fact that it was built by a Spaniard originally from Santander, and this building housed the offices of the shipowners or owners of the ships that operated in the city. Today, it preserves part of its Santander region tradition through the cuisine of its restaurant.

We can stroll along the sea along this floating promenade. We see people admiring the sea up close, and there are also children playing. Although I prefer to stay on dry land, I have a deep respect for the sea, haha.

From this side of our bay, we can clearly see the great Christ of Havana on the other side of the bay.
We can take the ferry directly from its departure terminal, known as the Crystal Station for its modern, glass-box-shaped design. It has two floors, with cafes upstairs where you can wait for the ferry while having a snack and enjoying a beautiful view.

Many people use this method of transportation because it's the fastest way to connect the historic center of Old Havana with the towns of Casablanca and Regla.

The little train runs through here, making a route along the entire port avenue. It's a pleasant way to stroll and get around this area, taking in the beautiful scenery.

See you soon!
