A stroll through Havana's most colorful square [eng/esp]

Hello my dear friends, as every Wednesday, I'm happy to join @tattoodjay's challenge to share with you a stroll full of pleasure and color.

My husband and I went for a walk through the oldest part of Havana. Our steps led us to a historic plaza created in 1559 as New Square, one of the city's first plazas. Many years have passed, and it's now called Old Square (Plaza Vieja); however, with the care and attention given to it by the City Historian's Office, it becomes more beautiful every day.

Being here is a true feast for the senses. The great variety of architectural styles gives it a harmonious feel, and its colorful facades uplift the soul. All the buildings share long porticoes protected by robust columns, from which you can see the entire plaza while walking, sheltered from the intense sun that prevails on the island.

Although its initial purpose was commercial, selling all kinds of products, it is now very different. Here we can find a variety of recreational places such as art galleries, museums, hotels, cafes, restaurants, and bars.

Its sculptures and its large marble fountain are of great beauty, and we can admire them while walking in the shade of the arcades. The fountain is a staple in our plazas because in the past it was necessary to supply water to the inhabitants and merchants. Currently, this beautiful marble fountain serves as a place for birds to quench their thirst and take a refreshing bath.

My favorite sculpture is the one made entirely of bronze by the sculptor Roberto Fabelo: a nude woman, wearing high heels and holding a fork, riding a huge rooster. It represents the Cuban woman who, without losing her femininity, takes the reins of her life with mastery and determination.

There are also educational recreation centers like the Planetarium, where recreation is combined with education to show the origin of the universe through innovative equipment, ideal for children's learning.

A camera obscura located in the tallest building in the plaza, almost 40 meters high, offers a wonderful 360-degree view of the city through legendary optical equipment.

On one of its corners stands an elegant building that attracts a lot of attention: the Cueto Palace, built in 1906. Its Art Nouveau design enriches the plaza with its unparalleled elegance.

We decided to have a cold lemonade to refresh and relax after having explored the plaza.
It is truly beneficial to take these walks outdoors where you visit charming places that uplift you and relieve daily stress.
I hope you enjoyed our walk.
