Walking among Kottawa Reserve - Wednesday walk Story
HI my fellow Hivers,
Greetings all! How are you guys? I hope you are doing well. First of all, this is the first content posted in this community. Thank you very much #Wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. Properly understanding the content regulations to be posted in this community, I actually thought of walking in the Kottawa Rainforest, a beautiful reserve located in the Galle District of the Southern Province of Sri Lanka, on Wednesday. I was not interested in going to the center of the Kottawa Reserve, which has a large area. Because it would require more time. But I was able to cover the small distance I walked well. I prefer to do walking as an art because of my love for nature.
You can enter the Kottawa Reserve by coming from the Galle - Udugama main road. Even on any dry day, when you pass Kottawa on this road, you feel cool because it is a rain forest. Kottawa Forest is an area where it rains most of the days of the year. Therefore, the water springs here never dry up. Since it is an area with a lot of leeches, before starting the walk, salt powder was spread on the feet up to the knees. Earlier, salt powder was also spread in the Sinharaja forest. Freshwater fish endemic to Kottawa could be seen in these small water springs.
To enter the Kottawa forest, you need to buy an entrance ticket with the permission of the Forest Conservation Department. At some places, you have to walk through the swamps. While walking through the trees, there was no difficulty or fatigue. The shade of the trees and the wind blowing through the trees made the walk difficult, but it was a great relief. While walking through the water streams in the lowlands, it brought a cool touch to the bare feet. Meanwhile, many large fern species were encountered.
Despite the dark clouds, the rain did not hinder my journey. When walking through a forest, one should suppress the feeling of fear. As long as we do not harm the wild animals and the environment, they will not harm us. We should always accept new challenges. When we accept those challenges, we can discover new dimensions in life. Walking alone in a forest is a good challenge in a way. So, we have to face many such challenges in life, and it is up to us to find the right solution to them.
While walking through the swamps, thorns etc. also pricked my feet because I was walking barefoot. It is not easy to walk in the swamps with shoes. So I took my shoes in my hand and walked. Although it was a slightly painful experience, my priority was nothing more than reaching my walking destination. There are several types of trees and vines that are endemic to the Kottawa reserve, and some trees that are many years old are still standing.
Among the most valuable timber trees in the Kottawa reserve, there were also large trees with fruits as fruits. They had fallen from the tree for several days and were not edible. Since the fruits on the trees cannot be picked according to the forest conservation regulations, I never went beyond the law. I photographed a fallen donga fruit for you to see. Only a very few objects come under our observation in the reserve forests. Can you imagine how many more there are for us to discover?
I wandered around the core zone of the Kottawa reserve for more than an hour and a half. As I mentioned at the beginning, I did not come across any snake incidents because I am a person who loves nature. However, it is essential to be vigilant and careful in such a challenge. Because trouble does not come to us without warning. I was actually able to make today a more energetic day.
