A Walk Around my New Domain!

20251026_112327.jpg
I've never seen such diversity concentrated in one estate; all of 34 hectares. The land once was under sugarcane, and the estate is designed around the wetland, with many manmade waterways added; streams, small ponds, and waterfalls. There are mostly indigenous trees and plants in the common property area, very pretty gardens around the houses and apartments, with spring/summer flowers changing the colour scheme. I'm sure you know by now that I'm really enjoying my new surroundings. Even though I've only walked short distances, I hope to be fit enough to walk the entire estate soon!

The walk I'm taking you on today is from the clubhouse grounds overlooking a natural wetland area.
One can easily imagine you're somewhere upcountry, not in the middle of a residential estate with shopping malls just around the corner!
I took you on a Walk around the Village last week and shared the birdlife around the recreation area in the northern part of the village.
I'm discovering there is birdlife everywhere, even right outside my door! My mixed hedge - yellow and orange Cape Honeysuckle and the white Mackaya Forest Bell, is quite an attraction with birds darting back and forwards. This is a bird-lover's paradise!

I bought some herb seedlings and am looking forward to seeing them in the ground, so they spread out and start growing into healthy, strong plants, so I can start picking some Rosemary, Thyme, Parsley, Basil, Origanum, and Coriander. I also have some Lavender waiting to be planted.

That's all right outside my door, so I cannot call it a walk just yet!
A small patch of succulents, mostly Aloes, and a border of Mondo grass, is just around the corner from a lovely Rose bush, Agapanthus, and the Bush Lily. Diversity for sure!

What do we see as we reach the back gardens of the clubhouse? A pair of African Black Ducks is enjoying the rare sun we've had lately. The day started sunny and warm, and by late afternoon, it turned again to wintertime!

Reeds in the wetland were alive with birdlife; elusive Red Robins hopping between the reeds.
Can you see the little Robin blending in with the grasses below?

Weavers were building nests in the small trees, darting in and out, while this one seemed to be the watchman.

There was one lone Lotus flower, but it was hidden and neither my friend nor I could get close enough!

I hope to get fit walking these 25kph scenic and safe roads. The one thing I'm learning, the more I explore the surroundings of my new domain, is that there is a surprise around every corner!

What a beautiful adventure and nice walk. When I saw these places, I realized you guys have a beautiful country to explore, take nice pictures and go sightseeing. I haven't seen a lotus flower yet and I'm wishing to see one.

That place is beautiful, @lizelle, it's an all-inclusive experience. And on top of that, you can even witness the change of seasons from morning to afternoon, from summer to winter. Haha… I think that's brilliant. 😄

Warmest regards. I'm truly happy for you!

Haha @nanixxx, that change of seasons is quite confusing, and ends up in a wardrobe change twice a day😅
Thank you for your kind words!

I think your new home has brought you a lot of happiness. You have been discovering very beautiful and diverse places. Being close to the fundamental family and now your garden and its surroundings, you will not have time to spare. I hope you don't abandon the kitchen, something that was always your favorite place.
I feel happy for you. Big hugs @lizelle. 🥰❤️❤️

Hello, dear @mamani, it has indeed. It is such a beautiful place, I understand now why my brother and his wife kept on digging at me to sell and try to find a unit here.
I will definitely be back in the kitchen. I still need to use the oven. Will share a slice of cake with you when I do get time to bake.
Keep well, my friend. I was thinking of you with the hurricane. I assume you're away from the area that got hit?

Yes, many kilometers from the disaster it left behind. But we are still affected by electricity more than we already were. You are very considerate of me and I thank you for your concern, good friend.
I'm glad you're adapting so well to your new home. Enjoy the weekend exploring the surroundings, you will surely tell us. Hugs. 🥰❤️❤️❤️

Such lovely gardens milady, and just to think that you don't have to lift a finger for their upkeep. That really looks like you have found a piece of heaven to live in.
