National Expiatory Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament

At the beginning of the year, January becomes a relaxed time; many people haven't started work yet, and many businesses remain closed. Some companies have the custom of starting operations in February, giving their employees collective vacations.

Comenzando el año, el mes de enero se convierte en esa parte del año que es relajado; todavía mucha gente no ha comenzado a trabajar y aún permanecen muchos negocios cerrados. Hay empresas que tienen la costumbre de comenzar sus labores en el mes de febrero; les dan a sus empleados vacaciones colectivas.

The advantage of all this is that the streets aren't crowded, and you find yourself in a peaceful city, thanks to the absence of hustle and bustle and traffic. You can get around faster and enjoy places that aren't so frequented, because on those days, when everything is chaotic, street vendors with their wares occupy entrances and exits of every corner of the city.

La ventaja de todo esto es que las calles no están abarrotadas de personas y te encuentras con una ciudad tranquila, por la ausencia del bullicio y el tráfico terrestre. Te trasladas más rápido y puedes disfrutar de sitios que no son tan frecuentados, porque en esos días, cuando todo es caos, los comerciantes ambulantes, con sus mercancías ocupan entradas y salidas de cualquier espacio de la ciudad.

Today is a special day for a stroll. I had the opportunity to reach this church without much trouble; I'd been curious to visit it for some time. It's a majestic sanctuary from the outside, and I can only imagine what it's like inside. Its construction dates back to 1910; the initiative was spearheaded by Archbishop Juan Castro when he laid the first stone. Its Gothic architecture is quite striking, especially considering its location in an otherwise unremarkable area.

Hoy es un día especial para pasear, he tenido la oportunidad de llegar a esta iglesia sin mucho contratiempo, tenía curiosidad de visitarla desde hace tiempo; es un santuario majestuoso por fuera, me lo imagino por dentro. Su construcción data de 1910; la iniciativa la llevó a cabo el arzobispo Juan Castro cuando colocó la primera piedra. Su arquitectura gótica llama mucho la atención, ya que está ubicada en un lugar común.

I say this because our city tells its story through the past and the present, where modernity is embedded in working-class neighborhoods with striking buildings, reflecting the development and economic progress of our people. On this occasion, I noticed this difference when I arrived at the National Expiatory Church or Sanctuary of the Blessed Sacrament, declared a National Historical Monument on April 15, 1994, by the National Institute of Cultural Heritage. It is located in a traditional community adjacent to Plaza La Concordia, between the Glorieta and Hospital corners.

Digo esto porque nuestra ciudad cuenta su historia a través del pasado y el presente, donde lo moderno se incrusta en los barrios populares con construcciones llamativas, evidenciando el desarrollo y avance económico de nuestro pueblo. En esta oportunidad pude notar esta diferencia cuando llegué a la Iglesia o Santuario Nacional Expiatorio del Santísimo Sacramento, decretado Monumento Histórico de la Nación el 15 de abril de 1994, por el Instituto de Patrimonio Cultural de nuestro país. Ella se encuentra ubicada en una comunidad tradicional adyacente a la Plaza La Concordia, entre la esquina Glorieta y Hospital.

An area where you can find homes dating back to the 20th century, residential buildings, schools, businesses, and recreational sites for children and the community at large.

Un área donde puedes encontrar viviendas que datan del siglo XX, edificios residenciales, escuelas, negocios y sitios de recreación para niños y la comunidad en general.

The Sanctuary is visible from afar; its great height makes it stand out from the corner. Upon arriving and observing its facade, we noticed how impressive it is. Its neo-Gothic style and construction are striking. Standing in front of it, it was quite awkward to take a full photo, as the street is very narrow; nevertheless, I did my best. Once inside, you notice the majesty and tranquility of the place; its sturdy columns rise high, and the soft light that filters through the cliffs lends it a mysterious air. But the light also penetrates more intensely through its doors and windows, revealing its interior completely.

El Santuario se deja ver a gran distancia, por su gran altura se divisa desde la esquina, al llegar y observar su fachada, notamos lo impresionante que es. Su estilo neogótico y construcción es llamativo, encontrándome frente a ella, era bastante incómodo sacarle una foto toda completa, ya que la calle es muy estrecha; sin embargo, hice todo lo posible. Ya adentro, notas la majestuosidad y tranquilidad del lugar; sus fuertes columnas se erigen hacia lo alto, y esa luz tenue que entra a través de los acantilados la hace misteriosa. Pero también la luz penetra con más fuerza a través de sus puertas y ventanas que desnuda por completo su interior.

In this way, you can see the marble floor, with shapes and colors that complement the tone of the mosaic walls. Above, various stained-glass windows further enhance the architectural beauty of the space.

De esta manera detallas su piso de mármol, con formas y colores que van acordes con la tonalidad de las paredes de mosaico. En la parte superior se observan diferentes vitrales que embellecen más la obra arquitectónica.

It has three naves: two side aisles and the central nave, which is the main one. The church is entirely dedicated to the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and is run by the Congregation of the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament.

Cuenta con tres naves, dos laterales y la central, que es la principal. La dedicación completa de la iglesia es la adorar al Santísimo Sacramento y la iglesia está a cargo de la congregación de las Siervas del Santísimo Sacramento. .
