Wednesday Walk : Sentier des Cimes in Winter, Québec

For this new #WednesdayWalk hosted by @tattoodjay, I'm taking you back to the Treetop Trail. After the vibrant fall colours (see this Wednesday Walk), this time we're in the heart of winter with the Lumagica event and its light installations along the Laurentian forest trail. The scenery changes completely; it's truly a place to visit in different seasons, as you'll see in this post.

During the first week of March, I rented a chalet near the Mont Blanc ski resort (see my previous #WednesdayWalk Mont Blanc, Quebec). It was located not far from the Treetop Walks, less than 5 minutes by car. It was the perfect opportunity to revisit this superb facility.

This bear doesn't seem too happy about people sitting next to him 😀. During the winter, the Treetop Walks offers a light show called Lumagica with several light installations along the 3-kilometer route. So after a day of skiing, I went to check it out.

The starting point is the old fish farm building (see Wednesday Walk for more information about the site and its history). A few steps lead directly to the trail.

Even without the light installations, the view of the Laurentians is superb, even in winter. But the lights add an extra touch of magic. They depict animals found in the region, like this raccoon or this doe with her fawn. These installations are located either directly on the path or below in the forest.

Night was settling in peacefully during our walk on the trail. Luckily, it wasn't too cold that evening, which made the outing very pleasant. I think walking is faster at -30°C* 😀. *I really like this moose; I've never actually seen this animal in real life, and despite its size, it's quite discreet. Only once, fleetingly, from a distance 😢. One day I hope to see one.

Here is the wooden tower, 12 stories high. A luminous star has been placed at the top. At the entrance, a small wooden star was given to place at the top and make a wish.

As soon you ascend the tower, you can see the Mont Blanc ski resort. In the center, a few illuminated stars had been installed for a beautiful effect. At the summit, people were resting on the safety net suspended over the void.

But the most beautiful thing, in my opinion, is the view of the Laurentians from the top of this tower. It's truly magnificent, a completely different atmosphere than in autumn with the trees and their colors. I love this landscape too. As I was saying, since it wasn't too cold, we were able to stay at the top for a few minutes and wait for the sun to set completely.

P1140882.JPG

I had my old (very old) camera, and it's really not good in low light (lots of noise). But I managed to get the bright star and the moose after nightfall.

P1140891.JPG

I hope you enjoyed this #WednesdayWalk with me on this trail. It's a really easy walk to do if you're in the area, and it's well worth it (despite the slightly high entrance fee).
Have a great #WednesdayWalk everyone!

You had a very nice afternoon/evening light show walk! I have very similar issues with my camera(s), the old Nikon and the one on my mobile phone... During the night, they are both almost unusable, and it's a pity not to have photos of this kind of thing... Lights + white snow at night give fantastic results!

It looks amazing in photos, but I can only imagine what it was like to be there! (except for cold, I don't want to imagine that part... 😂 at least, it wasn't -30 😃)

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, it was a lovely walk, especially since the evening wasn't too cold and there were beautiful views of the snow-covered Laurentians. And the light installations added an extra touch of magic.
I need to invest in a new camera because my older one takes randomly blurry photos.
Thanks for your support.
Have a great day

Congratz on the proper moose siting 😂 fun place with the lights. I bet it gets cold on those raised walkways in the winter. Maybe I will visit in the summer 🙂

For such large animals, moose are remarkably discreet. I only saw a shadow from afar 😅
Oh, that's great that you're coming to visit Quebec this summer... it can only improve US/Canada relations 😀
Have a great Friday
