Wednesday Walk : Mont Sutton, Montreal
For this new #WednesdayDay hosted by @tattoodjay, I'm not suggesting another walk in La Fontaine Park in Montreal 😀. We're heading to the Eastern Townships in Quebec towards the Mont Sutton ski resort. With 30cm of snow falling overnight from Monday to Tuesday, the conditions were ideal at this resort with its numerous trails through the woods are perfect for enjoying the powder snow..

Mont Sutton is located in the Eastern Townships, less than a two-hour drive from Montreal, near the US border. Yesterday morning, the road was quite slippery due to the heavy snowfall in the area. But it was worth it to enjoy the excellent skiing conditions.

For your information, the resort, established in 1960, is quite pleasant with a highest point at 860 meters. But it's especially its wooded areas that offer beautiful descents through the trees and fresh snow.

The surroundings were truly magnificent, with the trees blanketed in snow. Even from the parking lot (see the first photo), it made you want to hit the slopes right away. In the morning, there were quite a few people on the ski runs. I think the locals took advantage of the beautiful conditions, with temperatures that weren't too cold (around -14°C), to take a day off work and go skiing. It's one of the perks of living near a mountain.

As you can see from the photos, all the slopes are bordered by a forest where skiing is easy. In the summer, mountain biking takes center stage at Mont Sutton. During the week, not all the chairlifts are open at the same time. So in the morning, when conditions were best, I was on the slopes furthest from the parking lot, skiing among the trees. Under the fresh snow, there were still patches of ice due to the thaw at the beginning of January. But nothing unpleasant.

In the afternoon, the resort gradually emptied out as the slopes near the car park are more traditional, with less undergrowth. But it's still pleasant, less tiring for the thighs and knees 😀.

I hope you enjoyed this #WednesdayWalk with me, even though it was more of a WednesdaySki. But by now you must be used to it with me 😀. The photo quality isn't great, but I forgot my camera and my mobile phone isn't very good for that.

Nice #wednesdaywalk 👍 Nice resort. I think you have posted from Mont Sutton before. Its not far from where we went to view the eclipse in Enosberg, Vermont. Roads are still rough here. Ok but not all the way to dry pavement.
You have a good memory... I had a doubt because before writing the post I wanted to see what I had written about this ski resort but I couldn't find it. But now with your comment, I searched more thoroughly and voilà! in 2024 :
Wednesday Walk challenge : Mont Sutton (Quebec), the sky was blue 😀
Have a great day
It does looks like a sunnier day, maybe better for beer that day 🙂
I had a beer after skiing in the village of Sutton, A L'Abordage, a good IPA. Après l'effort, le réconfort 😀
Thanks @ewkaw and @qurator for the curation, always appreciated.
