Wednesday Walk : Gator Park, Everglades, Miami

For this #WednesdayWalk hosted every Wednesday by @tattoodjay, I suggest a short airboat ride in the Everglades National Park not far from Miami. As I didn't have much free time during my few days in Florida, I took a quick tour of one of the many places offering tours along the park. At random, it was Gator Park...

Pour ce #WednesdayWalk organisé comme charque mercredi par @tattoodjay, je vous propose une petite balade en aéroglisseur dans le Parc National des Everglades pas très loin de Miami. Comme je n'avais pas trop de temps libre pendant ces quelques jours en Floride, j'ai pris une visite rapide dans un des nombreux lieux proposant des tours qui longent le parc. Au hasard, cela fut Gator Park...

Gator Park is located not far from Miami, about an hour's drive away. When I posted on #Worldmappin, I saw a post about the same place from a few years ago by @greddyforce, who was luckier than me and saw quite a few animals 😤: Everglades Boat Tour.

Everglades

As soon as I arrived at Gator Park, the hovercraft was ready to leave with a dozen people spread across four rows. I was sitting on the edge, which was perfect for enjoying the ride. With the warm, sunny weather, I had been warned that there was little chance of seeing a crocodile. It's not the right month for that kind of encounter...

Dès mon arrivée au Gator Park, l'aeroglisseur était prêt à partir avec une dizaine de personnnes réparties sur 4 rangées. J'étais sur un bord, parfait pour en profiter. Avec le temps chaud et ensoleillé, on m'avait prévenu qu'il y avait peu de chance que j'aperçoive un crocodile. Ce n'est pas le bon mois pour ce genre de rencontre...

We start off gently along a sort of canal between the trees. You can see quite a few fish in the water. I even saw a turtle... but no sign of any crocodiles or alligators. After a few minutes, we reach a more open area, with only tall grasses sticking out of the water.

On commence tranquillement par une sorte de canal entre les arbres. On peut apercevoir dans l'eau pas mal de poissons. Et j'ai même vu une tortue... mais pas de trace de crocodile ou alligator. Après quelques minutes, on atteind une zone plus dégagée, seulement des hautes herbes qui sortent de l'eau.

At this point, the guide turns off the engine and tells us a little about the Everglades National Park and its flora and fauna. Still no alligators in sight. After about ten minutes, we head back to park entrance. Even though I didn't see any, I enjoyed the experience, my first time aboard a hovercraft. It was quite short, but as there wasn't much to see and it was very hot, that was fine with me.

A cet endroit, le guide arrête le moteur et nous explique un peu le Parc National des Everglades avec sa faune et sa flore. Toujours aucun alligator à l'horizon. Après une dizaine de minutes, on retourne vers le débarcadère. Même sans en avoir vu, j'ai bien aimé cette expérience, première fois à bord d'un aéroglisseur. C'est assez court mais comme il n'y avait pas grand chose et qu'il faisait très chaud. Cela m'allait très bien.

Gator Park

At Gator Park, there is a presentation with real alligators and some other animals found in the park, such as a scorpion and a bullfrog. I feel a little sorry for the animals; they are in this small enclosure all day long when they could be a few meters away in the wild. But at least they get pieces of meat at each presentation.

Au Gator Park, il y a une présentation avec des vrais alligators et quelques animaux présents dans le parc comme un scorpion, une crapeau-boeuf... Je plains un peu les animaux, ils sont dans cette petite cour toute la journée alors qu'ils pourraient être à quelques mètres de là dans la nature. Mais au moins ils recoivent des bouts de viande à chaque présentation.

It was Tom who introduced us to all the animals, a rather nice guy... However, if I have the opportunity to go back, it will definitely be to the Everglades National Park, which seems to offer really nice, quieter walks where you can better appreciate the flora and fauna of the area.

C'est Tom qui nous a présenté tous les animaux, personnage assez sympathique... Par contre, si j'ai l'occasion d'y retourner cela sera vraiment dans le Parc National des Everglades, il semble avoir des balades vraiment sympathiques et moins bruyantes pour mieux apprécier la faune et la flore de cet endroit.

As I was leaving the presentation, there was a small lake. I kicked a ball of dirt (it looked like poop). And that made a big fish very happy, as it seemed to enjoy its meal 😀. Of course, there is a souvenir shop and a restaurant, but I didn't buy anything or eat anything... I waited until I got back to Miami Beach to eat some delicious ceviche at a Peruvian restaurant.

En sortant de la présentation, il y a une sorte de petit lac. J'ai juste donné un coup de pied dans une sorte de boule de terre (cela ressemblait à une crotte). Et cela a fait plaisir à un gros poisson qui avait l'air bien content de ce repas 😀. Il y a biensûr un magasin de souvenirs et un service de restoration mais je n'ai rien acheté et rien mangé... j'ai attendu mon retour à Miami Beach pour manger un bon ceviche dans un restaurant péruvien.
