Caminata hacia El Calvario, historia, tradición y naturaleza / Walk to El Calvario, history, tradition, and nature

Saludos hivers. ¿Están listos para una caminata llena de naturaleza, historia y tradición? Es lo que les traigo para este #wednesdaywalk 😉⛰️🏃🏻‍♀️, iniciativa creada por @tattoodjay. La cita fue el domingo 7 de septiembre a las 7 de la mañana, y la plaza Bolívar fue el punto de reunión desde donde iba a empezar este recorrido, la tercera edición de la Caminata Ven a El Calvario. Mi hermana y yo no hemos hecho esta caminata así que decidimos ir, en especial para conocer el antiguo puente que está en la ruta.

Hello hivers. Are you ready for a walk full of nature, history, and tradition? That's what I'm bringing you for this #wednesdaywalk 😉⛰️🏃🏻‍♀️, an initiative created by @tattoodjay. The meeting point was Sunday, September 7th at 7am, at the Plaza Bolívar, the place from where this tour, the third edition of the Come to El Calvario Walk, would begin. My sister and I hadn't done this walk before, so we decided to go, especially to see the old bridge along the route.

Esta caminata comprende una ruta de alrededor unos 4 kms y durante la misma pasamos por varios sitios emblemáticos e históricos de la ciudad como las plazas Bolívar, Montilla, Ribas, Las Madres y Guaicaipuro, el Cuartel Montilla, y sectores rurales como Sarayauta, el barrio Jesús y El Calvario, que es donde terminaba la caminata. El día estaba soleado y sin señales de posible lluvia, algo que ha sido una constante en estos días.

This walk covers a route of approximately 4 km, passing several iconic and historic sites in the city, such as Bolívar, Montilla, Ribas, Las Madres, and Guaicaipuro squares, the Montilla Barracks, and rural areas such as Sarayauta, the Barrio Jesús, and El Calvario, which is where the walk ended. The day was sunny with no signs of rain, something that has been a constant these past few days.

Después de pasar por el casco histórico de La Victoria y cruzar la avenida principal, empezamos a caminar subiendo la vía hacia el sector de Sarayauta. La gente iba muy animada cantando y conversando, esta es una caminata familiar y no una competencia así que el ambiente era relajado. Obviamente el bullicio llamaba la atención de las personas que se asomaban para curiosear por las ventanas y las puertas de las casas por donde pasábamos. Los paisajes se hacían cada vez más interesantes y hermosos a medida que íbamos acercándonos a la montaña.

After passing through the historic center of La Victoria and crossing the main avenue, we began walking up the road toward the Sarayauta area. People were very lively, singing and chatting. This is a family hike, not a competition, so the atmosphere was relaxed. Obviously, the bustle caught the attention of people who peered through the windows and doors of the houses we passed. The landscapes became increasingly interesting and beautiful as we approached the mountain.

Entre todos estos lugares que cubre el recorrido, hay uno en particular que es poco conocido e incluso desconocido para los que vivimos alejados de ese sector, y ese es el puente Guzmán, una antigua edificación que formaba parte del acueducto que surtía de agua al pueblo, el mismo fue construido durante el gobierno del presidente Antonio Guzmán Blanco en 1875, no está en muy buen estado, y desconozco si le han hecho algún tipo de restauración, pero creo que aparte de las rejas que le han puesto a los lados, y que también deben tener muchos años ya, el resto es la estructura original. Algunas personas lo cruzaban con miedo pero como toda construcción antigua, está muy bien hecho así que aún parece seguro caminar sobre él jejeje.

Among all these places covered in the tour, there is one in particular that is little known and even unknown to those of us who live far from that sector, and that is the Guzmán Bridge, an old building that was part of the aqueduct that supplied water to the town, it was built during the government of President Antonio Guzmán Blanco in 1875, it's not in very good condition, and I don't know if it has done any kind of restoration, but I think that apart from the bars that have been put on the sides, and which must also be many years old, the rest is the original structure. Some people crossed it with fear but like any old construction, it's very well done so it still seems safe to walk on it hehehe.

Aunque esta caminata es de poca exigencia, hay un corto tramo al empezar a subir la montaña que dejó a varios con la lengua afuera jajaja. Es una zona rural rodeada de mucha vegetación y donde solamente se puede subir a pie, en bicicleta o en moto, pero a pesar de eso hay muchas casas, algunas muy bien construidas y otras mucho mas sencillas y humildes.

Although this walk is not very challenging, there is a short stretch at the beginning of the mountain climb that left many people with their tongues hanging out, hahaha. It's a rural area surrounded by vegetation and accessible only on foot, by bicycle, or by motorcycle, but despite this, there are many houses, some very well built and others much simpler and more humble.

Apenas vimos las primeras escaleras de colores sabíamos que habíamos llegado al sector de El Calvario en el norte de la ciudad, en la segunda parte de las escaleras hay un gran mural dedicado a Jesús en el Calvario o el Cristo aparecido, como también se le conoce, una tradición que se lleva celebrando desde hace 229 años en honor a Jesucristo. Según cuenta la historia, un campesino llamado Hilario Urbina se topó con la imagen de Jesús crucificado mientras hacía sus labores diarias en el campo, esto sucedió un 14 de septiembre de 1795, a partir de ese momento la figura del Santo Cristo en el Calvario empezó a ser venerada y se le atribuyen milagros, los fieles asisten a la procesión y a la misa que se celebra cada 14 de septiembre para pagar sus promesas y agradecer al Santo por los favores concedidos.

As soon as we saw the first colorful stairs, we knew we had arrived at the El Calvario sector in the north of the city. On the second part of the stairs, there is a large mural dedicated to Jesus on Calvary, or the Apparition of Christ, as it is also known. This tradition has been celebrated for 229 years in honor of Jesus Christ. According to history, a farmer named Hilario Urbina came across the image of Jesus crucified while doing his daily work in the fields. This happened on September 14, 1795. From that moment on, the figure of the Holy Christ on Calvary began to be venerated, and miracles are attributed to him. The faithful attend the procession and the mass celebrated every September 14 to pay their promises and thank the Saint for the favors granted.

Estábamos en la parte final de la caminata, subimos las diferentes escaleras que llevan hasta el mirador donde está la Capilla de El Calvario, el ambiente era de alegría, música y felicidad, al llegar los participantes éramos recibidos con frutas para reponer la energía. Había un DJ que estaba poniendo música bailable y dos animadores vestidos de payasos haciendo un show de baile y comedia. Mi hermana y yo nos sentamos un rato a descansar y contemplar el paisaje. El día seguía soleado y la temperatura era agradable.

Después de descansar un poquito aprovechamos para dar unas vueltas por el lugar y hacer algunas fotos, mientras tanto, los payasos hacían espacio para que empezara la bailoterapia 💃🏻🕺🏻, y a un lado de ahí estaba un kiosco donde estaban preparando todo para cocinar y vender la sopa para la hora de almuerzo. Eran apenas las 9 de la mañana y decidimos empezar a bajar para irnos. Fue una hermosa mañana con un ambiente muy alegre y donde tuvimos la oportunidad de conocer un lugar nuevo 😁.

After resting a bit, we took the opportunity to wander around the place and take some photos. Meanwhile, the clowns were making room for the dance therapy to begin 💃🏻🕺🏻. Next to them was a kiosk where they were preparing everything to cook and sell soup for lunch. It was barely 9 a.m. and we decided to head down to leave. It was a beautiful morning with a very cheerful atmosphere and where we had the opportunity to discover a new place 😁.
