A walk along Gonzalo Picón. Mérida, Venezuela Eng-Esp

Hello, Hive friends, happy Wednesday walk; it's a pleasure to share another experience with you. I love walking and rediscovering new things while I do it. A quiet walk through the streets of the city will always do us good.

On this occasion, the day looked perfect for traveling to the city of Mérida to run some errands. This is what the day looked like from the bus stop. Luckily, I caught the bus on time, and in less than an hour, I was in the capital of the state of Mérida.

My first stop was on Urdaneta Avenue, where I had to visit a government institution to process some documents. That's when I saw this sculpture in honor of Canon Uzcateguí, built, as the plaque says, in 1942. He was the first person to found a free institution in the city during the independence era. The sculpture is made of marble and is very realistic. It is a beautiful work of art and aroused my curiosity.

One of the things I like to admire is architecture, and a few meters from the sculpture, I found this building that blends contemporary and modern architecture, which really caught my attention. I really like the design of the building; its symmetrical facade is composed of a mixture of materials and elements that make it stand out. The central part, which culminates in an arch, complements the design and makes it harmonious. I also love how the landscape is reflected in the windows.

After admiring this building, I had to make a decision: either walk to the other end of the city, since I had to get to the University Hospital, or take another bus. I decided to take the more difficult route and walk a little through an area called La Gonzalo Picón; this is a residential area, but there are also several institutions and private medical centers here. In the following image, we see the College of Engineers, which I must visit soon.

In the background, we can see the university hospital, whose circular tower can be seen from various points in the city. It seems so close, but right in the middle, we have the airport runway, so I had to go all the way around the runway to get to 16 de Septiembre Avenue.

Walking was the best choice; otherwise, I would have missed out on several things, things that can go unnoticed in the midst of the daily hustle and bustle, such as this beautiful church. This small church captivated me; it has a polygonal shape, which makes it different and special. I didn't know it existed and I don't know what it's called, but I think it's very beautiful. I love how the bell tower stands out and blends into the surroundings.

I kept walking and we arrived at one of the most important markets in the city of Mérida: the Periférico Market. It is a large market where you can find vegetables, fish, seafood, grains, and much more. This time, I didn't have time to go inside, so I'll have to save it for another time.

We finally reached the intersection where two major avenues meet. From there, I started walking down 16 de Septiembre Avenue. But not before taking some photos of this stop, which I love. This is one of the trolleybus stops, and I really like its modern design.

Finally, I am facing the airport runway, and now everything is easier because I only have to walk a few more meters to reach my destination. In the end, I walked approximately 1.9 kilometers, according to Google Maps.

It was an excellent walk; the morning was perfectly sunny. I really enjoyed learning a little more about Gonzalo Picón. I am happy to be able to share it with you. Thank you for the space.

Hola, amigos de Hive, feliz miércoles de caminata; es un placer compartir con ustedes una experiencia más. Adoro caminar y redescubrir nuevas cosas mientras lo hago. Una caminata tranquila por las calles de la ciudad siempre nos hará bien.

En esta ocasión, el día lucía perfecto para trasladarme a la ciudad de Mérida, para hacer algunas diligencias. Así se veía el día desde la parada de autobús; por suerte, tomé el autobús a tiempo y en menos de una hora, ya estaba en la capital del Estado Mérida.

Mi primera parada fue en la avenida Urdaneta; aquí debía visitar una institución gubernamental para tramitar unos documentos. Entonces fue cuando conocí esta escultura en homenaje al sacerdote Canónigo Uzcateguí, construida, como dice su placa, en 1942. Este personaje fue el primero en fundar una institución gratuita en la ciudad durante la época de la independencia. La escultura es de mármol, realista, es una bonita obra y me generó mucha curiosidad.

Una de las cosas que me gusta admirar es la arquitectura y a pocos metros de la escultura, encontré este edificio que mezcla la arquitectura contemporánea con la moderna, que llamó bastante mi atención. El diseño del edificio me gusta mucho; su fachada simétrica está compuesta por una mezcla de materiales y elementos que la distinguen. La parte central que culmina en un arco complementa el diseño y hace que sea armonioso. Además, adoro cómo se refleja el paisaje en los cristales.

Después de admirar este edificio, debía tomar una decisión: o caminaba al otro extremo de la ciudad, ya que debía llegar al Hospital Universitario, o tomaba otro autobús. Decidí tomar el camino más difícil y caminar un poco por un sector llamado La Gonzalo Picón; esta es una zona residencial, pero aquí encontramos también varias instituciones y centros médicos privados. En la siguiente imagen vemos el Colegio de Ingenieros, el cual debo visitar próximamente.

Al fondo observamos el hospital universitario, cuya torre circular se deja ver desde varios puntos de la ciudad, parece tan cerca, pero justo en el medio, tenemos la pista de aterrizaje del aeropuerto, así que debía darle la vuelta completa a la pista, para acceder a la avenida 16 de septiembre.

Caminar fue la mejor elección; de otra forma me hubiese perdido de varias cosas, cosas que pueden pasar desapercibidas en medio del ajetreo diario, como esta hermosa iglesia. Esta pequeña iglesia me cautivó; tiene una forma de polígono, lo cual hace que sea diferente y especial. No sabía de su existencia y no sé cómo se llama, pero para mí es muy bonita. Me encanta cómo el campanario sobresale y se integra al entorno.

Seguí caminando y llegamos a uno de los mercados más importantes de la ciudad de Mérida. El mercado periférico. Es un mercado grande donde podemos encontrar vegetales, pescados, mariscos, granos y mucho más; esta vez, no pude tomarme el tiempo de entrar, así que será en otra oportunidad.

Al fin llegamos a la intersección donde se unen dos importantes avenidas. A partir de aquí comencé a recorrer la avenida 16 de septiembre. No sin antes tomar algunas fotos a esta parada que me encanta. Esta es una de las paradas del trolebús y me gusta mucho por su diseño moderno.
